When I started in the network marketing industry, the idea of autoship was very new to me, and at first a bit intimidating. People can be nervous about a monthly commitment.  Once I learned more about the industry, it became very clear to me that in order to build a successful business you need autoship. I am going to share with you what I have learned over the years and why autoship is important in network marketing.

Do you love the product?

Why is autoship important in network marketing? You use your own product!

Do you love the product you are trying to sell to others? You should be actively using your product! If you aren’t, that may be a good sign that you should evaluate the company you chose to go with. If you love the product and actively use it, investing on average $100 towards it a month should be a no brainer. One reason why autoship is important in network marketing is it keeps YOU actively using your product. You have to become a consumer of your products.  Your own testimonials will be worth their weight in gold for you.  When you use your products, you are also investing in your business. You are leading by example and showing the people you work with the importance of autoship.

You can think of autoship as overhead. It is part of the cost of doing business.  Not only is using your product setting an example, it is also providing cash flow to your business. Without autoship and lots of happy customers ordering every month, you will constantly have to hustle to reach the numbers needed to keep your business going. When you can count on a constant amount of money coming in, you can focus on the expansion of your business instead of playing catch-up. Autoship is the financial backbone to your business. A mentor told me years ago that we should think of autoship as sacred territory.  Without selling volumes of product, there can be no substantial cash flow. Autoship keeps product sales steady as you build your team and business.  This is where the residual income comes in too.  Most importantly, your team will do what you do.  If you aren’t on autoship and don’t teach others to be on autoship, you won’t get that boulder up the hill.

So how do you deal with people who are resistant?

If the people you are working with don’t understand why autoship is important in network marketing here are a few things you should consider. Are you making a big enough deal about it? When you sponsor someone, you should make it really clear that they should be on autoship. And explain to them it isn’t for you but for them because their team will do whatever they do.  By talking about this from the get go,  you are building a standard from the ground up.  In the beginning of a new distributor’s business is when you want to be teaching about how important autoship is.

If the people you are working with are resistant to spending around $100 a month to invest in their own future, you may want to consider the level of commitment they have to the business. They can be customers and order when they want and we all want lots of those too.  However, the business builders should have enough customers to cover their autoship costs. Be sure you are focusing your time and energy on committed team members! Don’t sell yourself short.

One of the best MLM secrets I can give to my new team members is to create a daily routine that works!  If you want to be a top earner, you must be willing to make sacrifices and change your current behaviors to make way for new ones. I like to keep an online copy of my daily routine and check items off the list as the day goes on.  I admit sometimes – I use post it notes too…

MLM Secrets: Organizing Your Routine

Whatever the start of your day is for you, make sure you can maximize the amount of time you have. I am a late night bird so it isn’t like I start my day early.  But I do make sure that I have enough time to get done what I need to do.  You have to prioritize your life.  What is most important to you?  What are you willing to give up at least for now?  The success of your routine will have a lot to do with your time management. I would suggest using a checklist of the 10 most important things you need to do on a regular basis.   Google Calendar is a great tool for setting reminders too.  You can set it up to signal alerts to your smart phone making it a piece of cake to keep track of your to do list even when you are on the go.

Start your day off right!

My daily routine includes:

Reading from an inspiring book for 15 minutes per day.  This can change your life!  Reading affirmations.  Writing in my gratitude journal.  Exercise.  Prospecting.  Following up.  Teaching new members on the team.  Creating Content.  Checking in on social media.  Responding to email and facebook messages.  Promoting the next event.  Attending team meetings/events.  And calling my Mom.

When I am focused on these activities, I am focused on what moves my business forward! Exercising may not be many people’s idea of fun, but just think of how much more you will get done. When we take good care of ourselves, we will be able to present our best selves.  If we want to be successful, we MUST be willing to do something different than what we have been doing. It is the only way to progress. Sacrificing some behaviors can help take you to the next level in your network marketing business.

Here are some other mlm secrets you can use to maximize your time:

  • Multitask! If you are driving, make some calls, or better yet, if someone else is driving, shoot off some texts and emails.  Turn your car into a network marketing university.  Use this time to learn and listen.
  • Cut down the amount of time you spend on social media for entertainment. We all know how easy it is to get lost on Facebook!  Facebook is an amazing tool but don’t get lost looking at your friend’s home-made video on how to curl your hair…
  • Delegate tasks when you can.  You do the most important things and hire/farm out the other stuff.
  • Pick the most important tasks and do those first.  You will feel great at the end of the day if you do that!

I just gave a presentation at our Las Vegas Convention about Leadership.  It was an honor to be presented as a new Diamond on stage and to talk about Leadership.  Leaders still get a bit nervous too.  🙂

Let’s get started on how to develop your leadership skills.  Do you feel like your leadership skills are lacking? Is your network marketing team as successful as you want it to be? Not everyone is born to be a leader. The good news? You can develop your leadership skills! The first step to being a better leader is self analyzation. Learn to understand yourself first. Are you the kind of leader who helps solve problems? Are you the kind of leader that helps people get along? Do you connect well with people?

Your Leadership Style

There are many leadership styles in network marketing, but you should focus on creating your own way, not copying someone else. One of the best ways to develop this style is to speak to a group of people, even just close friends. Ask them when you are done, what they liked best. It is this trait that you should focus on. That is your unique gift and style.  What people have told me after presentations is that they love listening to me and that I make complicated things seem simpler.  That is my unique gift.  Pay attention to what yours is.  The conversational way I interact with people as a leader makes people feel relaxed and receptive.  How do you make people feel?  How do you leave them feeling?  Leaders know how important this is and in network marketing, it is everything.  We get paid very well to listen to people and to find out what is going on in their lives and then help them find a solution.  If you come from a place of service, you can build a great team with a great culture too.

Being a good leader means LISTENING. The reason we are successful in network marketing is because we are finding out what people need and want. Developing your leadership skills means meeting people where they are.  We all come to this with a different set of skills and experiences.  There are no overnight successes.  When you see someone move quickly through the ranks, it is because they most likely bring years of experience to this table.  The good news is you can learn the skills necessary to be successful in network marketing.  This is the best on the job training I have ever seen!

Good mlm leaders are adaptable.  Some situations require you to be strong, some to be gentle, some to be kind and sometimes to be courageous.  Stepping up isn’t always easy, but it so worth it!

Qualities of A Strong Network Marketing Leader

Leaders take initiative. Do you act like a business owner? Do you wait for your upline? Are you a self starter? Do you take your business and yourself seriously? These are some serious questions you should ask yourself.  Developing your leadership skills means taking things into your own hands instead of waiting for someone else to do it for you.

A great leader encourages and inspires others. Become a leader YOU would want to follow. Leaders know that they will attract the leader they want in their business by becoming that type of leader.  Try to stay positive and optimistic, even when others aren’t. There will always be things to complain about.  What do you choose to focus on?

Remember you are the rock for your team, stay consistent with the activities.  Continue to enroll and to train.  You will be amazed at what happens for you in your business when you focus on the activities.  The results will come!

Be a better leader to your team!

Leaders know Network Marketing consists of a volunteer army! We are not bosses in this business.   No one I know needs more authority figures in their lives…  Learning to inspire and influence is key.  Good leaders are also prepared to become unimportant and have their egos in check. Kindness and empathy are very important leadership skills. Do you communicate in a way that people will listen? When you understand where someone is coming from, you can better understand how to motivate them!

Here are some of my best warm market prospecting tips!

Wondering how to build your warm market? A brand new distributor comes with only three things: fear, a small or large order of product and a close circle of family/relatives/close friends who will help them with almost anything one time if asked. This is the same natural behavior as if they started any business – like a restaurant, or dress shop. Family/close friends will always show up on opening day and will purchase to show support. The quality of the food, dresses or in network marketing, the product itself will determine if they ever buy again.

The Approach with this in mind, this HOT Market conversation is literally less than 90 seconds with a decision response that is nearly immediate – if you ask the right way.  They want to say yes!

Tips on building your warm market!

Scripts to help build your very warm or hot market…

Here is the language of the approach when the close circle member answers the phone (product): “Hi Aunt Cindy, this is Lisa …. I just started a new home based business… I am not asking you to join it or even to become a customer but I am going to ask for your help… I would like you to buy a month supply of my product, use it and give me your feedback – which will really help me… It’s $xx including shipping. If you like it you can become my customer… I will even show you the business if you want… If you don’t like it you never have to buy it again… Can I count on you?”

If they say no, the graceful out is “Hey Aunt Cindy, that’s not a problem. But there is another way you can help. If you can think of anyone over the next week or two that might benefit from trying my product, would you refer them to me? Thanks so much.”

Here is the approach by text (you can have a MASSIVE amount of fun team texting events with this one): Text 1: “Hi Aunt Lisa. I just started a business and could really use your help – it’s very simple. Text me back so I can give you some details. Thanks…”

Best ways to build your warm market.

Text 2 when they respond: “I need 10 trial consumers to give me feedback on my product – a high end serum or masque or ??? I would like you to buy 1 xxx (bottle, case, box, etc.), use it every day for 30 days – your honest feedback can help me market more successfully. It’s $xx including shipping. Let me know if I can count on you to be one of my 10. Thanks.”

This works really well for when your company launches a new product or even if a product isn’t brand new.  Remember, it is all new to your hot market when you first get started or when you have products that you haven’t shared with them yet. Text 3: “Hi Aunt Lisa. My company just launched a new product – a lifting masque. Can I count on you to be one of my customer testimonials? The cost is $xx including shipping.”

The words “Can I count on you?” are very powerful to the family and close friends that definitely want us to be able to count on them.  Use these scripts to reach out to the people that you would call to come help you with a flat tire or to come to your restaurant opening.  If you ask the right way, your family and friends want to be able to help you.  The minimum you will get out of this is some customers and some referrals.  And you will most likely get a promising business builder or several.

Doesn’t this sound easier than running after them trying to get Uncle Bob and Cousin Linda to get in your new business?  Sometimes our over eagerness in the beginning really turns off the people we love the most.  And remember, don’t be attached to the outcome.  You still have a great opportunity and future whether they say yes or not.  But I promise you, you will have a lot more yes’s when you ask and text like this.

What are the biggest mistakes network marketing leaders make?

MLM recruiting is all about networking and talking with as many people as possible. This is a numbers game.  However, there is a good strategy for this. Give yourself a daily goal for contacting possible leads and come up with a script for what you will say. When you consistently use the same message, you can track its effectiveness. Focus on the activities, not the results.  The beginning is the hardest part.  I always say your first 50 people in the business are the most difficult.  The next 50 are much easier!  Here are some sample scripts.

Select a tool from your business to share the needed information with them.  The key is to use a tool to share.  Your prospect will be asking if they have time to do this based on how long it takes you to share the message.  They will be asking if they can do this too based on HOW you share it with them.  So point to a tool.  Make it easy and short.

How to be successful in mlm recruiting

Many people don’t know how network marketing works and can react negatively when you are pitching them. This is something every network marketer has experienced at one point or another. My own family really gave me a hard time when I first started.  My Mom was still trying to talk me out of it when I was making great money.  They get it now.  (Don’t worry about the ones that say no….) I have found the best way to handle these objections is providing information that can help them understand more about how network marketing works. Use Feel, Felt, Found.  With any objection, say I know how you feel….,  I felt the same way and what I found out is…  It is comforting to people when you empathize with them and reassure them that you know how they feel.  If they are still negative, don’t waste your time. People can sense when you are overly eager and that can be a giant turn off.  I don’t try to convince people that they need to to do this.  If you feel like you are pushing a boulder up the hill, let the boulder come back down and move on to the NEXT.  We are looking for people who are open.  That’s it.

Overcoming obstacles in MLM recruiting

Try the “take away” too.  That goes like this:  “This may or may not be for you.”  That gets people wondering well, why wouldn’t it be for me.  And most of all, relax and have fun.  You will attract and draw the people you need to you for your business.  It takes time.  If you give it the time and learn the activities, you will be rewarded.

Be patient and strive to find people who are positive. It’s time to live your dreams!

Will Your Money Mindset Make a Difference in Your Network Marketing Business?

How important is your Money Mindset to your Network Marketing Business?

Your money mindset will absolutely make a difference in your network marketing business and it is also very important for your success!  Let me ask you a question.  How do you feel about this sentence:  You will only make as much money as you have developed your mind for wealth?

Does it make sense to you?  Do you really understand what the message is?  Read it again.  Do you believe you can develop your mind for wealth or for at least more money?  I do.  Because I did exactly that.  Today’s blog is about something that is very important to me: our money mindset.

How do you feel about money?  Do you really know how you feel about money?  Do you know what your money mindset is? Do you hear yourself say things like “he is filthy rich.”  Or “she is so rich, she must be lucky.”   Let’s take the “filthy rich” example.  If you think something is “filthy”, do you want more of it?  Who wants to be filthy anything?  A lot of people think that wealthy people are selfish, which always intrigues me because most wealthy people are actually very generous.  If you think wealthy people are selfish or acquired their wealth through unethical means, do you even want to become wealthy?   How do you feel when someone else has a lot of money?  Are you critical of others success?  Do you think celebrities, athletes and movie stars are “just lucky”?  If rich people are “bad”, are broke people “better”?  Who has the opportunity to serve more people: The person with means or the person without?  Sometime people get stuck that if they have more then someone else has less.  That isn’t true.  You need to believe in abundance and that you can be wealthy without taking anything away from anyone else.

Maybe you don’t want to become wealthy, maybe you just want to get past the just getting by phase.  It all works the same.  We limit ourselves.  We are the ones that put the cap on our potential, including our earnings potential.  Can you see how your language, how your beliefs about money could be sabotaging your ability to create more income in your life?  You can change your money mindset for sure.

It is fascinating to listen to people’s language about making money and rich people.  Most of us are walking around with the wiring from what we overheard about money when we were kids by family and friends who didn’t realize what an impact those faulty wires would have on us.   That was the beginning of our money mindset.  It is up to us to improve and expand it.

Change your Money Mindset. Change your life.

Money Mindset Exercise

Here is a quick exercise for you.  Pull out a blank sheet of paper and draw a line down the middle.  Write down Money is at the top of the left side of the page and Rich people are at the top of the right side of the page.  Now finish each sentence with as many adjectives as you can for about a minute each.  Now look at the words.  Are they empowering words?  Are they words like difficult, a pain, never enough, or hard to get?  If the words for how you describe money and rich people are less than positive, then you have some work to do to change the wiring you have acquired a long the way.  It happens to all of us and it is something you can change.  Just by becoming aware of it.  I promise you – it is holding you back both in life and in your network marketing business.

I believe money is fun.  I love investing money.  I love giving money to my favorite causes.  I love spending money on my friends and family.  I love creating passive income from my network marketing business.  But It definitely wasn’t always that way.  My parents had nine kids (in 11 years!) and money was definitely not abundant.  There were a lot of things we couldn’t afford.  I learned a lot of good things about money from my parents like saving and living within your means but what I learned about attracting money and investing and improving my money mindset came much later.

About 15 years ago, I went to work on my money mindset.  I started reading books about creating wealth (Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill is still my favorite). I started associating with people who were very successful.  I started asking them questions and asking for their advice. I started paying attention to their language around money.  I have never heard a person who has a lot of money say “I can’t afford that”.  They may say, “I don’t need that.”  It is a choice, not a foregone conclusion.  Watch what you say to your kids.  Instead of saying “we can’t afford that”, how about a more empowering question like “how could we afford that?”  It will help create some entrepreneurship in your kids and it opens up the possibilities instead of shutting them down.  Start your kids off with a healthier money mindset than most of us started with.

Will your money mindset affect your network marketing business

Would you like to stop using language that doesn’t serve you?  If you have limiting beliefs about money then, no surprise – you won’t have much.  You are not better or able to serve many by staying broke. When you change the language of broke and move towards abundance, you change the possibilities for what is coming your way for the better!  And the others in your network marketing business will notice a difference in you.  This is a great thing to teach people, too.

What if your money mindset changed to where you could make as much money as you possibly could?

What if you made as much as you could?  What if you could give away a lot of money to help others?  What if you became one of the top earners in your network marketing business?  What if a lot more of us believed that was possible and went out and did it?  Here is the biggest tip for creating more income:  create more value in the marketplace.  The value you create is directly related to the income you will earn.  If you want more money, provide more value!

I believe we are here to help each other and one of the best ways to serve is to create more income in our lives so we have the opportunity to help more people.

Network Marketing Tip: How to Be a Better Sponsor

Know your Why

Do you want to be a better sponsor for your brand new person?

Here is a network marketing tip for you:  If you want to be a better sponsor, Know Your Why for building your business and help your brand new person to know their why for building their business. It seems so simple but there is more to this than you would think at first glance. If you add this one thing, you will build a stronger, happier and bigger team.

In the network marketing profession, we talk a lot about the need to know your why.  We ask our brand new person (or we should be asking) “Why do you want to do this business?”  And we often hear “your why needs to make you cry”.  (I don’t think my why has ever made me cry – but it does move me into action.)  If you want to be a better sponsor, you need to help your brand new person to see that their why needs to be big enough so it will get them up out of that comfy chair and into action.  This is a really important question to ask your newly sponsored person.

When I first got into the industry in 2006, I remember feeling awkward about asking someone what their why was and to share with me their dreams.  It seemed too personal.  Remember, I come from a big American corporate background – we never did anything like that!  So I didn’t do this first step for the first year.   And then I realized that if I wanted to be a better sponsor to the people that I was bringing into the business, that I might want to include what I was being taught as being the first step.  And when I finally got the nerve up to start asking people about their why, I was amazed at how powerful it was.  People that I had known for years started sharing with me things I had never known that they wanted to do.  Molly wants to build a meditation retreat center and Sue wants to create movies about kids that have overcome hardships.  I had no idea until I asked the question.

Network Marketing Tip:  Help people to understand that to know your why for building this business is key.

When I started asking people what their why was, the conversation around this question really helped to create a bond between  my brand new teammate and me – even when it was someone I had known for years. But the key to asking your newly sponsored person about their why is to keep asking the question.  Everyone will say when asked “tell me your why for building this business”:  “because I want more money”, “because I want to get out of debt”, or “because I want financial freedom”.  And those are great goals.  But the money all by itself isn’t enough.  Trust me on this, it isn’t enough!

Know your Why to build a Network Marketing Business

When somebody says they want to pay off their bills and that is why they are coming into business with you, if you want to be a better sponsor, you need to ask them to think bigger.

So keep asking questions.  Network Marketing Tip:  Leaders ask questions.  Follow up with these questions:  What are you going to do with the money?  Why would financial freedom be important?  What does it look like?  Where do you live?  What does your house look like?  Who is with you?  What car do you drive?  Where do you travel to?  How do you travel?  Are there causes that you want to give to?  What are you going to do for you, your family and friends that is different?

If you want to be a better sponsor, keep asking questions….

When to Use 3 Way Calls in Network Marketing

Most people don’t have these answers right away, but given a few minutes, they will come up with the real reasons and their real why to build a home based business.  The reason why we don’t have the answers right away, is nobody in our traditional business life or even personal life, asks us this!  And that is exactly why it is so powerful.  By asking your brand new person this you are helping them to visualize what success would actually look like for them.  That is much more powerful than a blanket “I want financial freedom.”  You are helping them to figure out where they are going and to FEEL what that would feel like.  You are helping to anchor that feeling so when the ups and downs happen, they can tap into that feeling to remind themselves why they are building a network marketing business.  And if you want to be a better sponsor, you will remind them of that feeling too when the ups and downs inevitably happen.

This conversation between two people is actually a wonderful experience for both of you!

Network Marketing Tip:  Is it important to meet Industry Leaders?

The short answer is yes. Absolutely.  Success really does leave clues.  And if you want what successful people have – the easiest way for you to get there is to follow in the footsteps of people who have already been there.  My life is absolutely different and better today because of mentors AKA Industry Leaders.  Mentors will help you in ways you can’t even imagine today.  Real leaders have a heart space to help other people become successful too!

Here is a network marketing tip and example for you of what I am talking about.  I just returned home from the Top Earner Academy event with Ray and Jessica Higdon, two rock stars in the network marketing training space. I had the great pleasure of meeting Lisa Grossmann and Curtis Broome while I was there. Lisa and Curtis have been in the network marketing industry for about 25 years and hugely successful in building great businesses all over the world AND consult with many network marketing companies on how to be well, just better.  Do you think they might be able to teach us a few things?  Do you think they are true leaders in our industry?

I loved hearing Lisa speak at the Top Earner Academy event and knew that I wanted to meet her and get a chance to talk with her before the event was over. I was surprised (and elated) when Lisa came up to me after I spoke on the Success Panel and said “I am so glad I get to meet you. I have been following you for a long time.” I thought – “really, me?”.   (Do you recognize that little voice inside all of us that questions if we really have something worthwhile to offer? Ignore it.  Tell it to be quiet and go away.) Needless to say, I was very happy that she did come up to me!  Because even though we hadn’t met, I knew Lisa was one of the top leaders in our industry!

Take advantage of the opportunities before you and talk to the Leaders in the room!

After the session that day, I was so tired and really just wanted to head back to my room and was doing so, when I heard my higher self say, “you need to go back and find Lisa and Curtis and see if they want to go to dinner tonight or meet for breakfast tomorrow. You have been given this opportunity for a reason.” So I made myself walk back, found Lisa and asked her. And I did indeed get to spend several hours talking with Lisa and Curtis that night. You know when you make a connection with someone and you just know it will be an important relationship in your life? Well, that is how I felt.

The moral to the story is:  first, put yourself in situations where you can meet industry leaders and potential mentors and when you do put yourself in situations where you have the opportunity to reach up and meet someone  – say an Industry Leader, that you really admire and want to get to know, then let them know that. Take advantage of the situation you put yourself in. Create the situations where that is possible. Recognize who are the potential agents for good (friends/mentors/trusted advisors/industry leaders) in your life and seek them out. Don’t give in to “I’m tired” or “they won’t want to talk to me” or “maybe another time”. No, right now is the time that you have been offered to meet that person.  It is good to reach up!

Force yourself to walk back and put yourself smack into the situations and connections and friendships that can make a difference for you. It might be a successful business owner you know that is just looking for a new business. It might be a teacher or a mentor that you meet at an event. It might be the organizer of a networking event you just attended. The best way to create success is to surround yourself with people who have done what you want to do. Those opportunities happen more often than we realize – don’t ignore them or cave into the little voice that holds us back. I am so glad I didn’t the other night!

Overall, the top earner academy was a huge success and a great learning experience.

Network Marketing Tip:  When and How to use 3 Way Calls

Would you like to understand when and how to use the most under-utilized tool in Network Marketing?  Let me ask it another way.  Would you like to build a bigger business?  The 3 way call is one of the very most effective tools we have in our industry and it is shocking how it doesn’t get used so much more. When it is used correctly, it is an incredible way to close more reps and build better relationships. I had a mentor years ago share lots of network marketing tips with me – but this was one of the best ones.  And it is really quite simple.  But there is a proper chain of events that should happen to have the most effective 3 way calls you can have.

 

The first thing I want to clear up is clarifying that  3 way calls aren’t just for rookies.  I have earned millions of dollars in this industry and in the last 24 hours, I have brought my sponsor, Kelly Bangert (another 7 figure income earner) on to 4 calls with me!  (He is the handsome devil in the picture below.  LOL)  Network Marketing Tip #1:  If you want to build a bigger business, realize while it is GREAT for brand new people to use 3 way calls, even as you advance in rank, you should always use 3 way calls and I will explain why.

Yes, it is especially important for new people because they will learn by listening to you and the more you can help your new distributors to feel good, to feel like they are getting it, to make more money sooner and to build a bigger business – the better for everyone!  But why would I have brought my upline on to FOUR 3 way calls in the past 24 hours?  One reason:  Third Party Credibility.  And sometimes that just is the best tool in the toolbox.  Sometimes it is incredibly effective to let a 3rd party share why they said yes to your company and what is so great about the comp plan, etc…
You might say something very similar but sometimes your prospect will get more out of hearing it from someone other than you or someone in addition to you.

How to Use 3 Way Calls

3 Way Calls: When do you use this tool?

Network Marketing Tip #2:  You use 3 way calls AFTER your prospect has been exposed to your opportunity via two tools.  If you want to build a bigger business and create a relationship with your upline, sponsor or teammate then you need to follow this   You need to do your job first which is to introduce your prospect to your business by having them watch a video, attend an event, watch a webinar, or listen to a conference call.  Ideally, your prospect would have “two exposures” before you bring your upline or your sponsor on.

If you have done that and followed up with your prospect correctly (read timely followup), and asked the question “What did you like about what you saw or listened to?”   You want to draw out as many positives as you can.  And they tell you what they liked.  And if they tell you a lot about what they liked, then maybe they don’t need a 3 way call and you can say “Sounds like you liked what you have seen.  Let’s get you started.”  This is where you lead them to a decision.  And a lot of people will say okay.  The first few times it happens, you will be thinking to yourself – “Really?  Really, you are ready to sign up?”  But don’t say that out loud….

When to Use 3 Way Calls in Network Marketing

You will have a much better chance of closing more prospects if the people you bring on to the call have had two exposures to tools and or events. You see, it isn’t a correct use of 3 way calls to think that your upline is going to do all the work.  You have to prime the pump.  So let’s say you ask “What did you like best about what you saw or heard?”  And they tell you all of that and they also say “I have a few questions.”  Great. Questions are good.  It means they have interest.  It means they are giving this serious thought.  Okay –  now you can say, “That’s great.  I see you have some great questions.  I would love to bring my business partner on the line and we will answer your questions together.”

Importance of Edifying on 3 Way Calls

Network Marketing Tip #3:  This isn’t the time to edify the upline. Not yet.  So you have let your upline know ahead of time that you were in follow up call mode and they are on stand by in case you need them.  Now your educated prospect has questions and you have casually said you would like to bring your business partner on the phone.  Time to get them all on the phone together.  NOW you edify the heck out of the upline.  The reason not to do it before is a person’s wall of resistance will go up if they think you are going to bring on the master closer….  Once the 3 of you are ON the phone together, now is the time to edify the upline.  Another common mistake many people make is they edify the prospect to the upline.

Wrong way!  You tell the prospect all the great things about the 3rd party on the phone – your upline or your teammate.   You tell them how lucky we are to get this person on the line, that she is the top income earner, or the only X rank in the area, or just the best sponsor you could have asked for. Make your prospect feel comfortable and lucky to be on the phone with you and your upline/sponsor.  And now this is really important.

It is time for you – the organizer extraordinaire of 3 way calls to be quiet.  Don’t interrupt.  Do let your upline do most of the talking.  This isn’t always easy. You think of something they forgot.  You think of something that would really help…. If you really want the 3 way calls to work and to build a bigger business faster, then almost all of the time you just want to be quiet and let your upline work the 3rd party magic.  And never correct the person you just edified.  Even if they say something wrong.  Your prospect doesn’t  know.  You can clear it up later…  Chances are really good it isn’t important anyway.

How to build a bigger business

Lastly, set a goal for how many 3 way calls you are going to do each week. Track those numbers.  The more 3 way calls you have, the more it means you are doing the right things – contacting and inviting people to look at your products/services and opportunity.  When you bring more qualified prospects to a 3 way call, you are closing more people. It works. This is also a great way to get your upline’s attention.  When we see our teammates doing the right thing and engaging, we are more involved in their success.  And that is always a good thing!  Here’s to you building a bigger business and helping all of us to make the 3 way calls to no longer be under-utilized!

Network Marketing Tip:  One of my biggest breakthroughs

 One of my biggest breakthroughs as a Network Marketing Leader came when I really understood that one of the most important things I could do was to advance in RANK.  When I realized that advancing in rank is an absolute best way to help the team, it helped me to understand a great network marketing tip that a mentor had shared with me years ago.
People need to know that it can be done.  People want to follow in the footsteps of people who have done it before.  You need to become the Network Marketing Leader who is leading the way.  Often we lose perspective on how important this is.

Why is your Advance in Rank Important?

We are all busy right?  A huge breakthrough for me came when I realized that even though I wanted to help everyone,  that the best way to help the team and inspire everyone was for me to advance in rank AND to partner with a few key people on my team and to help them advance in rank.  And then they could do the same thing for a few people.  And it snowballs from there.  A fundamental Network Marketing Tip is we have to lead the way and we have to set the example.  It is very true that the leader sets the pace.  Are you the network marketing leader that you would want to follow?  Have you made it a priority to advance in rank?
Advance in Rank
There are so many people to connect with and to build relationships with online and offline.  It is really easy to focus too much time on too many people.  It is easy to become overwhelmed.  Result: you are scattered and you have scattered results.  Not the best way to help the team.  Focus is key.  You have to decide in a strategic way who you spend your precious time and energy on.  We need to be spending our time with people who are open, interested and willing to do the work and most importantly, ARE doing the work.  Not saying they will do the work or saying they want to do the work.  But actually are doing the work.  They are coachable and are following your instructions and listening to your guidance.  One of the best ways to help your team is to FOCUS.  To focus on your own next advance in rank and a few key serious partners.  You can inspire many.  You can coach many with today’s tools.  You can build very serious partnerships that last with a dozen.  That sounds contradictory for our network marketing business model.  I know.  I resisted it too.  One of the reasons we do this business is from a sincere desire to help many people.  And you can and you will by first becoming successful yourself and then helping a few people.  You have to start out with a few before you can help the many.  How do we eat an elephant?  One bite at a time.  As the leader you need to focus.  Look at your back office reports and find who are the people who are making it happen.  And then help fan that flame.  It will be the BEST way to help the TEAM.  
It is fascinating how often we find someone that really wants to build with us and what I have noticed is we help that person get started and then we often move on way too quickly, because of course we need to find another “good one” like that one.  And we end up spinning too many plates and there isn’t enough time to really hunker down and help a few to become really successful.  The best way to help the team is for YOU to advance in rank and to help a few others to advance in rank, then they can help some others advance in rank.    Choose the few to help advance in rank – be strategic.

Take the time when you meet someone that is ready to go that you really connect with, to help them become successful.  Don’t move on too quickly.  We often move on from Rachel Rock Star because we think “they are making it happen, I need to go work over here because Joe Bob really needs my help.”  That is faulty wiring.  If Joe Bob isn’t doing the work and isn’t motivated, you should keep spending your time with the Rock Star, not the ones on your team that you want it for more than they do.
You can’t do it all.  One of my biggest breakthroughs came when I realized that for me to advance in rank didn’t mean that it was all about me.  And it wasn’t selfish.  I realized that the best way to help the team was for them to see teammates advance in rank and that your OWN advance in rank helps them and inspires them in ways we can’t even imagine.  Help many.  Focus on a few.
