What is the #1 Most Important Tip when handling objections?

This may surprise you.  Maybe not. First, the worst thing you can do when you are prospecting and come up against an objection, say for example  “Is it a scam?” – the worst thing you can do is to get defensive.  The most worst thing you can do is to get MAD.  Is it a scam?  Of course not.  You know it isn’t but you have just been asked to see how good you are at handling objections.  It is a test.  That is all.  The #1 most important thing to do is to take a moment and to be empathetic.  You tell your story as in “That is a great question.  I wondered about that too.  What I found out is this business model has been around for about a century and is federally regulated.”  Be empathetic not in the sense where you apologize or start explaining away.  Keep your posture.  Keep your confidence.  Never give your power away to anybody.  It is okay to be understanding and to ask where that objection comes from.  You could say “No, of course not but it sounds like you have had a bad experience.  I would not be involved with something like that.”   When people ask “Is it a scam?” it is coming from a place of fear or concern that they could get involved in something not right.  Take a moment to reassure them.  Be empathetic.  Say things like “That’s a great question.  I had the same concern because of course I only want to be involved in a real business too.”

When you are out there MLM prospecting, you need to let them know you are like them.  That you had some of the same concerns or fears that you had to get over.  If you are defensive or attacking, it will turn them right off.  Maybe they aren’t the right person for you anyway.  Maybe they don’t have the right mindset but you can still keep your posture and show that handling objections can be done professionally and quickly too.

There are really only a few objections that people raise – we hear different versions of the same few over and over again.  If you get really good at responding to the few standard objections, the outcome for your MLM prospecting will be much more successful!  If someone throws a random question at you that may not even be worth answering, like “How much Vitamin K is in this?”  another great posturing sentence is to say “I don’t know about that, but what I do know is…  and share your product benefits or your comp plan benefits.   Make sure you tell people the benefits NOT the features, especially with regards to how it will make them FEEL.

If you come across someone that is just really negative, best to just say next.  I don’t spend any time convincing a negative person as to why they should work with me.  Mainly because that is most likely a character flaw and do I really want to spend time with negativity?  No, I don’t.  There is a difference between someone that asks a lot of questions and someone that is negative.  Spend time answering the questions for sure. That can be coming from someone that is genuinely interested.

Great Productivity and Happiness Tip for Network Marketers

Would you like to know one thing that I started doing last year that has helped me to be happier, more content and more productive in my business?  It is so simple!  I don’t know why I didn’t think of it before.  I love creating lists; I am a checklist nut.  I am one of those network marketers that makes a list because I love checking things off the list.  I am the type of person that forgets to include something on my checklist that I have already done and I write it down on the list just so I can check it off right away.

Too many items on that checklist?

I am also the type of person that puts way too many things on my list.  Sometimes my list for the day looks like a list for the week and I have to scale it back.  Does that sound familiar?  Are you a network marketer that is unrealistic sometimes about how much you can get done in a day?  It is easy to do – we are busy entrepreneurs with big visions.  I still have bigger goals for what I can get done in a day than what is really possible, but this one productivity tip changed my level of satisfaction and even happiness.

What is one productivity tip that makes me happier at the end of the day?

At the end of the day, I create another list that bullet points what I DID get done!  The feeling of satisfaction I get from doing this makes my day.  I change from being a frustrated “I didn’t get everything done on my list” person to a “Wow, look at everything I got done today!”  It sounds really simple, which it is AND it also completely changed my focus from being one of scarcity as in not enough time to being one of feeling grateful and empowered for what I did get done.  I have to admit, sometimes I don’t make the actual list and when I get into bed and start thinking of what I didn’t get done, I can quickly switch gears and I start listing in my head ALL the things I did get done on my checklist.

And it feels great!  Network marketers – I highly recommend trying this.  It is much better to end the workday feeling productive and empowered!  Here is to your happiness!

The 3 biggest mistakes Network Marketers Make…

The first one has to do with how you see yourself.  What is your vision for you and your business?  Most of us know what we need to do to move our businesses forward.  We know the HOW to’s but how big is our reason TO DO it?  Most of us haven’t spent nearly enough time on this.  That is one of our first biggest mistakes when starting our businesses.  The HOW TO isn’t what you are missing.  It is the WHY TO which has everything to do with your vision.   If you don’t have a strong enough vision and why to do this business, you can have all the how to’s and it won’t get you there.  Is your vision clear?  Is it strong?  Is it powerful?  Does it make you want to move forward?  My vision is to represent this great industry in a powerful and abundant way and to be the best professional example I can be.  My vision is to help a lot more people to see building a home-based business as a way up and out.  My vision is to help many people to become financially free.  It bothers me how many people are struggling financially today.  It bothers me how many people are worried about their retirements (and they should be).  We as an industry have a solution and I love that I get to represent that vision.  What is your vision?  Spend a minute and comment below.  I would love to hear!

If you fix the first mistake – your lack of vision, the second biggest mistake will be easy to remedy.

I see many people come in and out of this.  Consistency takes discipline.  It takes hard work.  If you work this one week and don’t make any calls for 2 weeks and then come in and work it for a few hours the 3rd week, what do you think the results will be?  Would that work if you were trying to lose weight?  Not very well.  I always say that being consistent with your daily routine on HOW to build your business is critical.  I know I became a top earner in the industry because I was consistent with the activities.  And it still amazes me at how extraordinary the results are from ordinary actions done consistently.  If you are consistent and you have a big vision, you only need one more thing to become a top earner in this industry.

So what is the 3rd biggest mistake network marketers make?

There are just too many network marketers that buy into that this is going to happen quickly.  That it isn’t going to take serious work.   This isn’t a get rich quick or get rich overnight plan.  I know one thing for sure: the harder I work the luckier I get.  We have to give this enough time.  If you start your business (any business) with the attitude that “I will give it 6 months and see how it goes,”  I can guarantee what your results will be.  If you go into this saying “I have a great vision, I will be consistent and I will work this business until it works” – you increase your chances for success times 1000!    What if it took you 5 years to become really successful as a professional networker?  It would be worth it!    Work on your vision, be consistent with the activities and give this enough time and you will be amazed.  Take it seriously.  I can’t even begin to tell you how glad I am that I did!

Would you like to learn how to be more effective prospecting on social media?

The world has changed since I started in the Network Marketing profession in 2006.  At that time, the CEO of my then company told us at the convention NOT to talk about the company on Facebook.  That is how new and I guess, scary Facebook was.  Today, if a CEO said that we would think they were crazy.  Facebook, Twitter, Linked In, Pinterest and Instagram are exciting, fun and wonderful ways for us to connect with family and friends AND amazing tools to connect with potential customers and potential business partners.  I did not think that 4 years ago.  I went into this world kicking and screaming because I couldn’t imagine that I had more inboxes!  My assistant (much younger than me) told me that someday I would wonder how I ever lived without it.  And I get it now.   Since then, I have added Linked In, Twitter, Pinterest and Instagram.  Who would have thought?  Believe me, not me a few years ago!

It is great to be more connected with your tribe using all of these tools.  And yes, you can make money using Facebook and all the social media sites for your network marketing business.  I have recruited over 65 people in the past year using primarily Facebook.   Once I got serious about this, I realized how if I could figure out how to recruit using Facebook, then so could you.

I know this webinar will give you some ideas as to how to make better connections and how to recruit using Facebook, Instagram, Linked In, Twitter and Pinterest.

Those are my favs these days.  Choose one or two to master first.  Don’t get overwhelmed.  That really is a state of mind and a choice.  And a daily practice not to get overwhelmed.  Just break it down.  Organize your thoughts and your posts at the beginning of the week.  If you are new to this world, get comfortable with one.  You can have great success mastering one!   Once you get going, your team will start following your lead.  Just imagine that you have more people coming into your business every single week because your team GETS how to do this. Which means you and your team have figured out how to make money using Facebook plus… Prospecting on social media is something that you definitely can learn and then can teach.   There is a sense of accomplishment when you start to figure this out too.  I had a great conversation with a gal yesterday that “found” me on Instagram.   When someone says, I “found” you on Linked In or Facebook, you know you are doing something right.  Here’s to getting found more often!

Something you might want to do for your network marketing business is to create a short video on HOW to join your business.  I get asked all the time how do I get your products?  How do I join your business?  Now I can send this short video that makes it easy for them and gets them started. People want to know how to join your mlm business.  Here is a quick example of what this type of video could look like.  Don’t make it hard….Don’t overcomplicate it.  It is so easy to not get a simple video done.  Believe me, I know….  This is just an example.  You don’t have to get too technical.  You don’t have to explain all your programs and options.  Just help your customer or possible builder get started.

It should be short and sweet, personable, an easy process and most of all, help lead them to a decision. We all want a lot of customers right?  Not everybody is a business builder and we so appreciate our customers too! A video like this will also attract the business builder because they will see that you are in business and that you mean business. You are taking the time to do something that most people don’t do. And in the world of social media and the internet – videos are definitely winning. The more videos you have out there, the more people will find you and the more you will dominate the space you are in. The power of video is it is almost like you are there in person with them. It is SO much more personal. It reassures people that you are real.

A lot of us have fears and blocks about the camera and creating videos.  Sometimes we get stuck as soon as the camera is on us.  I know I was like that and can still need to run around the block a couple of times after a video session.  I have gotten much better though than I used to be – it takes practice.  That old saying about practice makes perfect.  It’s true but we don’t need to be perfect.  We just need to be better.  I remember reading a book called “The Purple Cow”, by Seth Godin.  I read that book when I first got into the network marketing industry and the message was because of all the advertising we see on a daily basis, that you needed to be a purple cow to stand out and be seen.  Videos will set you apart from what a lot of people are doing to build their network marketing business.  This is just one example of a quick and easy one that everyone can do.  Another network marketing tip:  if it is easy and duplicatable, then your team will grow faster.

The other week, my top leaders and I did a series of calls with our team, and what kept coming up was the importance of having the right mindset for business success. The biggest thing that holds people back from the results they desire is a limiting mindset. Consider improving your mindset for business TOP priority, because the actions you take (or don’t take) always stem from your thoughts.

Have you heard of the book, E Squared, by Pam Grout? One of the book’s exercises is about looking for something very specific and seeing how it shows up over and over again. For example, butterflies. At first I wondered what the chances would be that I would happen across a butterfly throughout my day (especially since I work from home). Guess what happened:

I pulled an inspiration card (part of my daily success routine) and the picture on it was a butterfly! Astounded, I shuffled through the deck and counted eight butterflies in the cards. For the first time, I noticed my hand lotion – that I use every day – had a butterfly on the label. On my walk, I saw a giant wooden butterfly on the side of a neighbor’s house. Something caught my eye and, when I looked up, I saw a sweet little butterfly at the top of a tall tree. At the movies that night, about twenty butterflies flew across the screen during a pre-flick advertisement.

What does this have to do with your mindset for business? Everything! What you look for, you find. So what are you focusing on? Negative people with every objection in the world? Or successful people who are attracted to your products and your business? Make a decision now to intentionally look for what you want.

Part of having an empowering mindset for business is listening to your intuition. Call it Spirit, the Universe, or God – whatever speaks to your spiritual connection – the divine has a way of whispering messages to you. The question is are you listening?

I learned this the hard way a few years ago. I had been receiving messages not to go through with a particular investment – I had a strange feeling in my gut whenever I thought about it, and a couple people even warned me this was not a person to invest with. I went through with the investment anyway, though, and ended up losing a lot of money. Now, I listen to those divine nudges!

When developing your mindset for business, pay attention to the subtle messages the Universe sends you. If an old friend’s name pops in your head out of the blue, perhaps you might give her a call. If you hear a book title repeated numerous times throughout the week, that book might just have the exact lesson in mindset for business you need.

Cultivating a success mindset for business means understanding that you create your experience when you speak your intentions. Create a habit of setting an intention each morning for what you want to happen during the day. Solidify your mindset for business intentions by asking for people to show up who are enthusiastic about your product and company. Expect to receive what you ask for, and be grateful in advance.

The spoken word is a potent creative force, and affirmations are a powerful form of intention. Here are some of my favorite affirmations (feel free to borrow them)!

  • “I’m able to ask for what I want”
  • “I get value from everything I do”
  • “Every day I wake up to new wealth”
  • “Money comes to me in unexpected ways for the good of all concerned”

DO follow the leader and be coachable. In order to train your MLM Downline, you need to be a coachable downline yourself. Listen to the leaders in your business, watch what they are doing, and follow in their footsteps. If you call your active upline for council, do more listening and allow them to do more of the talking. This may sound obvious, yet people often get in their own way by not listening. Your leaders are here for your success, so take advantage of that resource, and follow the path of success that has been carved before you.

DO always keep sponsoring. A trap that many people fall into is they get a few people going and then get stuck in “management mode.” Rather than try to train your MLM downline to sponsor, model this for them by sponsoring people yourself. The most successful leaders are ALWAYS bringing new people in. In my first year with my current company, I sponsored almost 80 people. I am always actively talking with new people, meeting with prospects, and looking for people that want to build this business with us. New people are the lifeblood of this business. Keep on sponsoring!

DO remember your role is to be a resource. In order to train your MLM downline effectively, remember your role, as their sponsor, is to help them get started right. Your job is to help people know what they need to know to get their own business going successfully. After all, if you train your MLM downline to be dependent on you for everything, you are not going to create the duplication and freedom you want. Get comfortable with this sentence: “My job is to help you become independent of me as quickly as possible. Do you agree that’s a good goal?”

DON’T abandon people. It’s a mistake that many people in our industry make – You invest so much time and energy helping someone decide they want to join your business or try your products and then, as soon as they are on board, you leave them alone to figure it all out. Don’t just jump to the next person you want to sponsor – sit down with your new distributor and help them get started right.

DON’T work with the wrong people. You did a great job to train your MLM downline and now you have a team that is running with it. Now what? A common tendency at this point is to think, “Okay, they’ve got it handled,” and then to give your energy to the people who seem to need it more. The problem is, the people who seem to need it more, may likely be those who are not in action. Spending your time with people who are not engaged creates struggle. If you want to create momentum in your business, work with the people who are working it.

DON’T promise the world. If you want to set someone up for success, set reasonable expectations. Don’t say things like, “You’re going to make SO much money SO fast.” Don’t tell people this is going to be easy. The truth is, the network marketing model is one of the highest leveraged business models out there, and you can absolutely build your fortune here. But it does take work. It takes stick-with-it-ness. There are ups and downs, good times and bad, just like any business. Train your MLM downline to be in it for the long haul by representing this business as the real career opportunity it is.

Keep these DO’s and DON’Ts in mind as you build your team, and be sure to share them with your rising leaders!

With summer fading and the autumn energy creeping in, you may be realizing it is time to jumpstart your business again.

In fact, my family and I just got back from our annual beach vacation in Santa Cruz, and I had a few moments myself where I wondered, “Where do I start?” I decided to just choose two things to get done. This kicked in the momentum again and, for better or worse, it didn’t take too long for the sound of the waves to become a distant memory!

Every type of business has cycles and seasons, and our industry is no exception. As a rule, summer is not the biggest growth period in network marketing. Rules can be broken though – my company experienced their second best month EVER in August, and my own business grew substantially this summer.

If your business didn’t grow this summer, don’t beat yourself up. What you did in the summer was plant seeds, and those seeds will bear fruit in September and October. In fact, fall through Thanksgiving is the most productive season in our business, so you definitely still have time to make the rest of the year very successful. NOW is the time to make it happen.

Manage-Feeling-OverwhelmedSet goals for you and your team as to what you will accomplish in the next 90 days. How many new business builders will you have? Jumpstart Your Business with OUTREACH

Over the coming months, focus on prospecting, networking, meeting new people, and calling the people you know. Commit to connecting with five to ten people every day, and just watch… You will get what you want!  Make sure you have at least two voice-to-voice connections every day – that will make all the difference.

Jumpstart Your Business LOCALLY

In today’s age of the Internet, more opportunities for connecting with prospects are available to us than ever before. Yet, don’t kid yourself that the Internet is the only playground you are going to play in – you are leaving too much on the table if you do that. It doesn’t work for me how some Internet marketers paint a bad picture about in-person marketing. The truth is, it all works, but you will want to focus locally to get a team in your backyard going.

You can have a lucrative business all over the country and the world. Just remember – your LOCAL community is the best place to start.

A great way to jumpstart your business locally is by playing a game of Round Robin. Start a string of meetings – first at your house, then the next person’s, then the next. Moving from family room to family room will jumpstart your business and put your town on the map. Make your hometown the area that has the meeting going on every night. If you are the only person in your area, consider it a blessing and go for it! Become the top-ranking leader your town deserves.

Having fun in business is a hot topic today, and it is easy to see why.

We are connected all the time, to everything. Text messages, smart phones, iPads, laptops, social media newsfeeds, urgent emails, kindles, video games (my 83 year old Mom brought her iPad to a party last night to show her family slideshow) – all demanding our attention – on top of the actual work we need to accomplish!

Compared to what our grandparents experienced, the amount of information being fed to us at any given moment is nothing short of sensory overload. Since we can’t take a time machine back to simpler times, it is up to us to find ways for having fun in business.

I want you to really hear this, especially if you tend to be driven and hardworking: Having fun in business and life is not optional. It’s critically important.

Many folks can fall into the trap of thinking they will take time for fun, leisure, and pampering once they achieve the wealth. Not so, my friend. You need to generate the experiences you want NOW, so you can integrate that feeling of success into your cells. What do you think comes first: happiness or success? We think that success will create happiness, but it is actually the other way around. Being happy creates more success in all areas of our lives.
Besides, who would want to join your team if you are constantly stressed and burned out? A big part of why you and I chose a career in network marketing is because of the lifestyle we get to create, right?

I couldn’t go back to working for someone else now. The perks for owning your own business are fantastic. This morning I worked out at 10am, sat in my garden working till 2pm – you get the idea!

If you want to attract your dream team, people need to see you having fun in business and experiencing life in abundant ways. And if you are having fun in business – it will show up in your personality! Has it been awhile since you laughed so hard that your stomach hurt? Or since you had a tickling contest with your kids?

Here are some tips for having fun in business, and how it can actually accelerate your success:

#1 Tip for Having Fun in Business: Put Yourself in Good Feeling Places

Here’s a great daily practice for you that is guaranteed to make you feel abundant: At the top of a piece of paper, write, “I’m so happy that…” Now list ALL the things you are happy about. My list looks like,

I’m so happy that…

  • My first year of marriage was wonderful
  • My Mom is doing great
  • I get to live where most people vacation

Another variation is answering, “Why am I so wealthy?” Your mind will come up with all sorts of proof, and you will begin to embody the most successful version of yourself.

Why am I so wealthy?

  • Because I’m dedicated and focused
  • Because amazing people are naturally attracted to me
  • Because I’m having fun in business

#2 Tip for Having Fun in Business: Create a Ripple Effect for Giggles

You can’t always control what happens in your life, but you can control how you respond. The other day my husband was starting to make me a little bonkers and, as I felt myself getting annoyed, I stopped and asked myself: “Do I want to create a ripple effect of tension? Or do I want to create a ripple effect of giggling?”

As tempting as it is to be right, let’s be real… giggling is much more fun. So instead of getting testy with my man, I teasingly nudged him in the ribs, and we ended up having a great afternoon! Your assignment for having fun in business? Look for opportunities to create giggles.

At least more smiles! Don’t take everything so seriously! Smile when you pick up the phone. Diffuse tensions with a joke or something light-hearted. Be silly sometimes!

#3 Tip for Having Fun in Business: Do Something FUN

Of course building your business takes work, and you need to put the time in. Yet, understand that it never ALL gets done. So, rather than letting your “To Do” list run your life, why not wake up every morning and ask, “What do I WANT to do today? What do I GET to today?” You may be out of practice and may need to create a “Fun To Do” list. Part of having fun in business is making sure to do things from time to time simply for the sake of enjoyment.

Even if you just pick one Fun To Do item per day, you will notice a huge difference. I love doing something every day that is fun, outside, and for me! Things like:

  • Take a walk along the beach
  • Pick flowers and create bouquets for our house from our garden
  • Bake cookies with the kids

Having fun in business means making work fun! I noticed our kids drag their feet when it comes time to do dishes but, if we put some music on, dish duty becomes an opportunity to talk and laugh as a family. The kids might still need some convincing!

Having fun in business isn’t about blowing off your work; it’s about making conscious decisions to add the energy of FUN to whatever you are doing. Sometimes, I listen to music while I work. Sometimes I work in my garden or the local coffee shop.

My team and I just started a 10 day blitz and we text each other at 3pm to share what we accomplished in the blitz day. It creates some friendly competition and revs up the energy. We’re having fun in business together!

I am a big fan of dream boards. Standing in front of your dream boards with your morning cup of coffee is a great use of your time, and starts your day off with a sense of fun, peace, and success.

Here is one of my dream boards that I created about 6 years ago. This is an amazing story – When Mark and I were choosing my engagement ring, we found the one we loved on the first day out. Later, I took a look at the ring I had placed on my dream board SIX years ago and gasped out loud – the ring we had chosen was the EXACT same ring I had on my dream board.

Why is it important to have a Daily Success Routine?

Whenever people ask me how I made millions in network marketing, I share this quote from Keith Cunningham: “Ordinary things consistently done create extraordinary results.” There is no magic bullet in this business. It’s the specific actions you take consistently that build upon each other and, over time, your team grows and your paychecks multiply!

Did you know a penny doubled every day for 31 days becomes over $10 million dollars? It’s true. Do the math, or check it out HERE. Here’s the catch: Double that penny every OTHER day instead, and you will end up with a mere $300 bucks.

If you wonder how some people achieve the top ranks in their company so quickly, it is because they are disciplined to take action consistently, with a daily success routine. Being inconsistent doesn’t work in any business, and certainly not in network marketing.

Here is Your 10-Step Daily Success Routine for Network Marketing:

1. Review Your Goals

Your daily success routine begins with reviewing your goals every morning before you get swept up by the day. As you review your goals, act as if you have already achieved them. Look at your dream board and feeeeel what it is like to have that life. Post your rank goals somewhere you will be sure to see them throughout the day.

2. Say Affirmations

When it comes to breaking through to a new level of success, we are our own worst enemies. What you say to yourself every day really matters. The YouTube kid sensation Jessica, has a daily success routine we can all learn from. Who cares if it seems silly… building a positive mindset is critical to your success.

3. Read Empowering Books

Having empowered thoughts and actions comes from feeding yourself empowering content. Instead of watching violent TV (including what is often called “news”), relax with a book that develops, motivates, and inspires you. I created a specific space in my house where I keep uplifting books that move me…


4. Call 5-10 New Prospects

Set up a daily success routine where you reach out to new prospects at a scheduled time. Scheduling this outreach in your calendar means you are more likely to do it, which is important since contacting prospects is a key income-generating activity!

5. Follow Up with Prospects

Following up with prospects is just as important to your daily success routine as reaching out to new ones. If following up makes you nervous, pat yourself on the back. As Dr. John Maxwell says, “If we’re growing, we’re always going to be out of our comfort zone.”

6. Get 10-20 NO’s

Why set a goal to get NO’s? Well, because not everyone is going to say YES and, if you are getting NO’s it means you are out there talking to people. Let go of the attachment of needing YES’s, and sharing your opportunity becomes easier. (And, psssst… it’s hard to get all those NO’s without a few YES’s slipping in!)

7. Help Your New Distributors Get Started

Are you being the sponsor you would want to have? Properly training the people in your downline is how you duplicate your efforts. Support your team by helping them create and stick with their own daily success routine! 

8. Promote Events

What live events and webinars are the leaders in your business putting on this week? Be sure to promote those to your team and prospects. Social media updates, emails, and phone call reminders are all great ways to spread the word. 

9. Host an Event

Here’s a little mantra for your daily success routine: “The host earns the most!” Host a party at your house or at a coffee shop, share your opportunity via webinar, or ask your upline to jump on a three-way call with you and a hot prospect. A host has more skin in the game than a guest, so make sure you’re playing! 

10. Plug into Your System

Your system includes a set of tools, resources, and repeatable methods for sharing your opportunity and products. If everyone did their own thing, the results would be haphazard. Duplication is key and the wheel is already invented, so get your team on the bus and roll with it.

Now that you have your daily success routine planned out, what’s next?

First of all, congratulate yourself. Celebrate the small successes, like sticking with your daily success routine, and reward yourself with bigger treats (like dinner out or a weekend getaway) when you achieve the goals you have set.
