One of the amazing benefits of the network marketing industry is the lifestyle we get to live. We are fortunate to have flexible schedules and a lot of opportunity to earn vacations. But think about this…How many successful network marketers do you know who still can’t make ends meet? This is why financial literacy is so important for network marketers! When people start making money, they often do not invest or prepare for the future. Want to set yourself up for success? Educate yourself about money.   Financial literacy for Network Marketers is something I have been passionate about teaching for a long time.  You will hear more about this in the months to come!

Did you know 46% of all American workers have less than $10,000 saved for retirement?


I recently spoke about financial literacy at Eric and Marina Worre’s Top Most Powerful Women in Network Marketing event. It was an honor to be one of the 20 speakers!  When I was researching data, I was completely shocked to see the numbers about retirement. Did you know 46% of all American workers have less than $10,000 saved for retirement? And that 50 year olds and above have less than $50,000 in their retirement funds? That is insane! Would you like to learn how to better manage your money? How would it feel if you could live now and retire later stress free?

Well, I have learned the rules of the money game.  I have been studying how to make money and how to take care of that money for about 15 years.  I have read countless books on this subject and have attended many wealth building workshops.  I came to network marketing via a successful corporate career for over 20 years and woke up in my 40’s just wanting more and different.  I set on the path to become an entrepreneur and to create wealth.  Network Marketing found me in my late 40’s and in my 9 plus years in the profession I have only worked with two companies and have achieved the 7 figure income earner level in about 2 years.  So I guess I can say I know something about how this works!  But at the end of the day, if you are spending more than you make, then you are still broke.  I am on a mission to help network marketers get smart about the money they make!

Now is not the time to feel badly about what you do or don’t know about money.  We still don’t teach financial literacy in schools.  Children receive little to no education on managing money even today!  Some of us are fortunate to learn it from our parents, but in general, it is something we are left to figure out along the way. This presents a problem because the earlier you start saving for your future the better. What was the money language in your childhood home?  Do you remember how your parents talked about money?  Was it a stressful topic?  For most of us, it was and still is.  76% of households today are living paycheck to paycheck.

Financial Literacy in Schools

What gets talked about a lot in network marketing is how to SPEND your money.  Many of our company cultures are about lavish lifestyles which is great and which is fun – as long as the money continues.  If you’re making $100,000 a year and you are spending $110,000 a year – you are still broke! I want to add to the conversation being smart with your money. 

I decided as a young girl I never wanted to worry about money. My parents had 9 kids and it was a struggle. I decided as a working professional in my 40’s I wanted to become wealthy and not have to deal with financial stress like my parents did. It starts with a decision. That is all it is – a decision that you want more and better.  Reading changed my life.  I love “Think and Grow Rich” and “Rich Dad, Poor Dad”.  These are two books that totally changed how I viewed money and how to acquire it.  I also love Tony Robbins new book:  “Money:  Master the Game”.

It isn’t just how much you make,  it is also how much you keep. I know many million dollar income earners who are broke because they spent more than they made. Living within your means is a huge accomplishment.

Most of us don’t know all the advantages of a home based business. Most of us don’t know how to keep the records you need for tax purposes. Most of us don’t know you can live your life like a business and write off meals, gas, travel, meetings and a home office. Understanding this can help you start building a savings for your future! Use financial literacy to your advantage.

So what are some Easy Habits you can Create?

  • By making one extra payment of $1000 each year you could payoff your mortgage 5 years earlier. (
  • Debt snowball – pay off smallest debt first.  Then payoff the next smallest debt and keep going…
  • Set aside 6 months minimum living expenses for “peace of mind”.
  • Start funding your retirement early!
  • Teach your kids about money.
  • Get good financial advice – it is worth paying for!

It’s never too late! Use this information and more to come to make an investment in yourself and your future. Share the wealth and give this information to your team as well. Cheers to a successful life now and retirement later!

I just gave a presentation at our Las Vegas Convention about Leadership.  It was an honor to be presented as a new Diamond on stage and to talk about Leadership.  Leaders still get a bit nervous too.  🙂

Let’s get started on how to develop your leadership skills.  Do you feel like your leadership skills are lacking? Is your network marketing team as successful as you want it to be? Not everyone is born to be a leader. The good news? You can develop your leadership skills! The first step to being a better leader is self analyzation. Learn to understand yourself first. Are you the kind of leader who helps solve problems? Are you the kind of leader that helps people get along? Do you connect well with people?

Your Leadership Style

There are many leadership styles in network marketing, but you should focus on creating your own way, not copying someone else. One of the best ways to develop this style is to speak to a group of people, even just close friends. Ask them when you are done, what they liked best. It is this trait that you should focus on. That is your unique gift and style.  What people have told me after presentations is that they love listening to me and that I make complicated things seem simpler.  That is my unique gift.  Pay attention to what yours is.  The conversational way I interact with people as a leader makes people feel relaxed and receptive.  How do you make people feel?  How do you leave them feeling?  Leaders know how important this is and in network marketing, it is everything.  We get paid very well to listen to people and to find out what is going on in their lives and then help them find a solution.  If you come from a place of service, you can build a great team with a great culture too.

Being a good leader means LISTENING. The reason we are successful in network marketing is because we are finding out what people need and want. Developing your leadership skills means meeting people where they are.  We all come to this with a different set of skills and experiences.  There are no overnight successes.  When you see someone move quickly through the ranks, it is because they most likely bring years of experience to this table.  The good news is you can learn the skills necessary to be successful in network marketing.  This is the best on the job training I have ever seen!

Good mlm leaders are adaptable.  Some situations require you to be strong, some to be gentle, some to be kind and sometimes to be courageous.  Stepping up isn’t always easy, but it so worth it!

Qualities of A Strong Network Marketing Leader

Leaders take initiative. Do you act like a business owner? Do you wait for your upline? Are you a self starter? Do you take your business and yourself seriously? These are some serious questions you should ask yourself.  Developing your leadership skills means taking things into your own hands instead of waiting for someone else to do it for you.

A great leader encourages and inspires others. Become a leader YOU would want to follow. Leaders know that they will attract the leader they want in their business by becoming that type of leader.  Try to stay positive and optimistic, even when others aren’t. There will always be things to complain about.  What do you choose to focus on?

Remember you are the rock for your team, stay consistent with the activities.  Continue to enroll and to train.  You will be amazed at what happens for you in your business when you focus on the activities.  The results will come!

Be a better leader to your team!

Leaders know Network Marketing consists of a volunteer army! We are not bosses in this business.   No one I know needs more authority figures in their lives…  Learning to inspire and influence is key.  Good leaders are also prepared to become unimportant and have their egos in check. Kindness and empathy are very important leadership skills. Do you communicate in a way that people will listen? When you understand where someone is coming from, you can better understand how to motivate them!

Will Your Money Mindset Make a Difference in Your Network Marketing Business?

How important is your Money Mindset to your Network Marketing Business?

Your money mindset will absolutely make a difference in your network marketing business and it is also very important for your success!  Let me ask you a question.  How do you feel about this sentence:  You will only make as much money as you have developed your mind for wealth?

Does it make sense to you?  Do you really understand what the message is?  Read it again.  Do you believe you can develop your mind for wealth or for at least more money?  I do.  Because I did exactly that.  Today’s blog is about something that is very important to me: our money mindset.

How do you feel about money?  Do you really know how you feel about money?  Do you know what your money mindset is? Do you hear yourself say things like “he is filthy rich.”  Or “she is so rich, she must be lucky.”   Let’s take the “filthy rich” example.  If you think something is “filthy”, do you want more of it?  Who wants to be filthy anything?  A lot of people think that wealthy people are selfish, which always intrigues me because most wealthy people are actually very generous.  If you think wealthy people are selfish or acquired their wealth through unethical means, do you even want to become wealthy?   How do you feel when someone else has a lot of money?  Are you critical of others success?  Do you think celebrities, athletes and movie stars are “just lucky”?  If rich people are “bad”, are broke people “better”?  Who has the opportunity to serve more people: The person with means or the person without?  Sometime people get stuck that if they have more then someone else has less.  That isn’t true.  You need to believe in abundance and that you can be wealthy without taking anything away from anyone else.

Maybe you don’t want to become wealthy, maybe you just want to get past the just getting by phase.  It all works the same.  We limit ourselves.  We are the ones that put the cap on our potential, including our earnings potential.  Can you see how your language, how your beliefs about money could be sabotaging your ability to create more income in your life?  You can change your money mindset for sure.

It is fascinating to listen to people’s language about making money and rich people.  Most of us are walking around with the wiring from what we overheard about money when we were kids by family and friends who didn’t realize what an impact those faulty wires would have on us.   That was the beginning of our money mindset.  It is up to us to improve and expand it.

Change your Money Mindset. Change your life.

Money Mindset Exercise

Here is a quick exercise for you.  Pull out a blank sheet of paper and draw a line down the middle.  Write down Money is at the top of the left side of the page and Rich people are at the top of the right side of the page.  Now finish each sentence with as many adjectives as you can for about a minute each.  Now look at the words.  Are they empowering words?  Are they words like difficult, a pain, never enough, or hard to get?  If the words for how you describe money and rich people are less than positive, then you have some work to do to change the wiring you have acquired a long the way.  It happens to all of us and it is something you can change.  Just by becoming aware of it.  I promise you – it is holding you back both in life and in your network marketing business.

I believe money is fun.  I love investing money.  I love giving money to my favorite causes.  I love spending money on my friends and family.  I love creating passive income from my network marketing business.  But It definitely wasn’t always that way.  My parents had nine kids (in 11 years!) and money was definitely not abundant.  There were a lot of things we couldn’t afford.  I learned a lot of good things about money from my parents like saving and living within your means but what I learned about attracting money and investing and improving my money mindset came much later.

About 15 years ago, I went to work on my money mindset.  I started reading books about creating wealth (Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill is still my favorite). I started associating with people who were very successful.  I started asking them questions and asking for their advice. I started paying attention to their language around money.  I have never heard a person who has a lot of money say “I can’t afford that”.  They may say, “I don’t need that.”  It is a choice, not a foregone conclusion.  Watch what you say to your kids.  Instead of saying “we can’t afford that”, how about a more empowering question like “how could we afford that?”  It will help create some entrepreneurship in your kids and it opens up the possibilities instead of shutting them down.  Start your kids off with a healthier money mindset than most of us started with.

Will your money mindset affect your network marketing business

Would you like to stop using language that doesn’t serve you?  If you have limiting beliefs about money then, no surprise – you won’t have much.  You are not better or able to serve many by staying broke. When you change the language of broke and move towards abundance, you change the possibilities for what is coming your way for the better!  And the others in your network marketing business will notice a difference in you.  This is a great thing to teach people, too.

What if your money mindset changed to where you could make as much money as you possibly could?

What if you made as much as you could?  What if you could give away a lot of money to help others?  What if you became one of the top earners in your network marketing business?  What if a lot more of us believed that was possible and went out and did it?  Here is the biggest tip for creating more income:  create more value in the marketplace.  The value you create is directly related to the income you will earn.  If you want more money, provide more value!

I believe we are here to help each other and one of the best ways to serve is to create more income in our lives so we have the opportunity to help more people.

Great Productivity and Happiness Tip for Network Marketers

Would you like to know one thing that I started doing last year that has helped me to be happier, more content and more productive in my business?  It is so simple!  I don’t know why I didn’t think of it before.  I love creating lists; I am a checklist nut.  I am one of those network marketers that makes a list because I love checking things off the list.  I am the type of person that forgets to include something on my checklist that I have already done and I write it down on the list just so I can check it off right away.

Too many items on that checklist?

I am also the type of person that puts way too many things on my list.  Sometimes my list for the day looks like a list for the week and I have to scale it back.  Does that sound familiar?  Are you a network marketer that is unrealistic sometimes about how much you can get done in a day?  It is easy to do – we are busy entrepreneurs with big visions.  I still have bigger goals for what I can get done in a day than what is really possible, but this one productivity tip changed my level of satisfaction and even happiness.

What is one productivity tip that makes me happier at the end of the day?

At the end of the day, I create another list that bullet points what I DID get done!  The feeling of satisfaction I get from doing this makes my day.  I change from being a frustrated “I didn’t get everything done on my list” person to a “Wow, look at everything I got done today!”  It sounds really simple, which it is AND it also completely changed my focus from being one of scarcity as in not enough time to being one of feeling grateful and empowered for what I did get done.  I have to admit, sometimes I don’t make the actual list and when I get into bed and start thinking of what I didn’t get done, I can quickly switch gears and I start listing in my head ALL the things I did get done on my checklist.

And it feels great!  Network marketers – I highly recommend trying this.  It is much better to end the workday feeling productive and empowered!  Here is to your happiness!

The 3 biggest mistakes Network Marketers Make…

The first one has to do with how you see yourself.  What is your vision for you and your business?  Most of us know what we need to do to move our businesses forward.  We know the HOW to’s but how big is our reason TO DO it?  Most of us haven’t spent nearly enough time on this.  That is one of our first biggest mistakes when starting our businesses.  The HOW TO isn’t what you are missing.  It is the WHY TO which has everything to do with your vision.   If you don’t have a strong enough vision and why to do this business, you can have all the how to’s and it won’t get you there.  Is your vision clear?  Is it strong?  Is it powerful?  Does it make you want to move forward?  My vision is to represent this great industry in a powerful and abundant way and to be the best professional example I can be.  My vision is to help a lot more people to see building a home-based business as a way up and out.  My vision is to help many people to become financially free.  It bothers me how many people are struggling financially today.  It bothers me how many people are worried about their retirements (and they should be).  We as an industry have a solution and I love that I get to represent that vision.  What is your vision?  Spend a minute and comment below.  I would love to hear!

If you fix the first mistake – your lack of vision, the second biggest mistake will be easy to remedy.

I see many people come in and out of this.  Consistency takes discipline.  It takes hard work.  If you work this one week and don’t make any calls for 2 weeks and then come in and work it for a few hours the 3rd week, what do you think the results will be?  Would that work if you were trying to lose weight?  Not very well.  I always say that being consistent with your daily routine on HOW to build your business is critical.  I know I became a top earner in the industry because I was consistent with the activities.  And it still amazes me at how extraordinary the results are from ordinary actions done consistently.  If you are consistent and you have a big vision, you only need one more thing to become a top earner in this industry.

So what is the 3rd biggest mistake network marketers make?

There are just too many network marketers that buy into that this is going to happen quickly.  That it isn’t going to take serious work.   This isn’t a get rich quick or get rich overnight plan.  I know one thing for sure: the harder I work the luckier I get.  We have to give this enough time.  If you start your business (any business) with the attitude that “I will give it 6 months and see how it goes,”  I can guarantee what your results will be.  If you go into this saying “I have a great vision, I will be consistent and I will work this business until it works” – you increase your chances for success times 1000!    What if it took you 5 years to become really successful as a professional networker?  It would be worth it!    Work on your vision, be consistent with the activities and give this enough time and you will be amazed.  Take it seriously.  I can’t even begin to tell you how glad I am that I did!
