Read this Before You Hire a Business Coach

Hire a business coach.

It is the end of the year and when we start thinking about our next year goals, resolutions and hopefully dreams too!  Sometimes we start to think about who else do we need on our team.  Here is the question of the day: Do you need to hire a business coach? Or do you need to take advantage of the mentorship and leadership already available for you in your home based business?  A great coach CAN be a great way to boost your network marketing skills and take your business to the next level. They may help you recruit more reps, get more leads or help your team to even become top earners for the company. However, a business coach is not for every situation or everyone. Over the past few years, I have worked with a couple of extremely talented people that taught me things that have literally translated into many thousands of dollars.  Not to mention, making my life and my team’s lives easier and more productive.  I have also always created great relationships with the leaders in my company, my upline, my sponsor and the corporate executive team.  All of these relationships will lead you to more success and create value in your life.  And more friends too!

Working with a coach has been one of the biggest learning tools I could ask for. You may be an avid reader and resourceful, but being able to ask questions and get advice is so valuable in this industry. Think of coaching as an investment to your business and your life. What I love about our business is you don’t always have to “hire” this.  Our business has a built in coaching system so make sure you aren’t spending money you don’t need to but if you find that you do need to or want to, then by all means take that leap.  We can always afford to learn more!  Think about how much more money you will be able to make because of what you learned!

Hire a Business Coach, But First…

Here are some of my suggestions you should consider before you actually hire a business coach:

1. If you don’t know what you want, then you should spend some time thinking about it before you hire a coach. It may be smart to make a list of goals you would like them to help you with. If you don’t have goals, that is a recipe for failure. Never hire anyone if you do not have goals! Otherwise you may just become one of those clients that just complain about not getting the results they expected. Having a list will give both of you a clear understanding of what you are working towards. I would also suggest including a time frame so that you know when these goals will be achieved.

2. Think about what you expect to get from a business coach. Perhaps what you really need is a therapist? LOL. That was a joke…  sort of….A business coach is there to help your business, not work through your personal issues. Making the move into full time network marketing can be a hard choice for some to make. Many people haven’t started their own business and there is a lot of responsibility – and a lot of reward! Your business coach is there to guide you on how to build your team. It isn’t their responsibility to guide you through your life choices. Before you decide to hire a business coach, you should make sure that the work you are currently doing is something you would want to do a year from now or even five years from now. Let your business coach accentuate the work you are already doing.

3. Are you happy with the results you are getting, but know that they could be better? That is the BEST time to hire a business coach! A coach should not be hired to motivate you. Motivation comes from within and if you don’t feel motivated, odds are good it is because you haven’t really defined your goals and dreams.  A coach should be hired to improve your work performance. They may do this by asking the right questions to help you learn ways to boost your performance and answer your questions to help you more quickly learn what you want to learn. Also think about their talents. You will get the most out of their expertise by learning what you can on your own and really focusing in on their best talents. If they are having to school you in network marketing 101, you aren’t getting to the good stuff!

If you feel like you do need more training and whether you can afford a coach right now or not….READ! I cannot stress this enough. I am an avid reader and their is a plethora of knowledge online right at your fingertips. Read a lot and read often.  There is so much available online now.  I love watching youtube videos several times a week both for inspiration and for helping me to think about a new way to do something in our business.  I am not saying you need a coach or should hire a coach.  That will depend on where you are, what skillsets you bring to the table, your finances and your network marketing team.  Some people can get everything they need within their own team and company.  Others need more.  Just wanted to give you my 2 cents on what to consider.

Have you noticed that phone calls are not winning the popularity contest this year? People are starting to respond less and less to phone calls, and I can’t blame them. How many telemarketers call you? How much easier is it to just send a text? No one wants to talk on the phone anymore, let alone strike a conversation with a complete stranger! This makes cold calling even harder. Fortunately, we no longer have to use the phone like in years past to grow our network marketing businesses. In this post, I will share the best alternatives to cold calling I have found over the past few years – this is valuable information folks!

Thanks to the advent of social media and emails, we now have a new way to do business. We can speak directly to our leads through email, social media and text messaging. Everyone is happy. The lead is happy because they can respond to a message with less effort or ignore easily if they choose. The network marketer is jumping for joy because it’s way faster to send out 20 text messages or Facebook messages than make 20 phone calls.  I am not saying don’t make any calls.  Phone calls are still important and should be a part of your marketing efforts AND you want to add texting and FB messages/LinkedIn messages.  Phone calls still work for warm market calls and follow ups.

One of the most important ways to build up your company is to pay attention to where customers want to get their information. We have to recognize that customers no longer really want to talk on the phone – so try not to to rely on cold calling as your main source of lead generation. If someone will not answer a call when it’s their Aunt calling, why would they answer the phone if they don’t know who is calling? Therefore, it is important for network marketers to figure out what type of system will allow the customer to contact the business in a way that they feel comfortable. In the year 2015, it is obvious that the best platform to reach customers or potential customers is through social media and texting via our smart phones.

You want to keep a phone line open so that people can reach you during normal business hours. However, you will soon find that most of your leads will want to reach back to you through email,texting or social media.  I think it is easier and preferable to get the word out about your products and business via social media, texting or emails, rather than cold calling. The leads will be much more accepting if you build a relationship with them online first. It gives them a chance to learn more about you and warm up your proposal. They can look at your website, blog, Facebook page, Instagram – you get the point. They will feel like they know you.  People like purchasing from people they have a connection with.

Then you will not only be welcomed if you decide to call, they may even call you first. In other words, you should use social media like Facebook or Twitter, or email to “warm up” your potential lead. For example, if you have an email list for potential leads, make sure to ask all the right questions to get a response. You can even use the Internet to hold online classes, info summits and meetings to get your potential customer’s attention. Remember that social media, texting and email are how most people prefer to communicate now.  They will talk to you when they are really interested.  You get them interested via all the great tools we have available today.  I personally don’t care for cold calls.  That doesn’t mean it can’t still work and some people love cold calling.  Just making the point that in todays world, it is a good idea to go to where your leads are and speak their ideal language to get them interested.  Social media is a game changer for network marketers.  We can never again say we have run out of people.  Make 5 new social media connections a day (choose your favorite platform – mine is Facebook) and build rapport with them and if you do that for 30 days in a row, you will be amazed at the number of new prospects, customers, and potential for both you will have.

I hope this post helps you get more leads by focusing on the best ways to communicate with them. You can also set reminders and recurring tasks which makes organizing your MLM business much easier.  Your calendar isn’t where you want to stash all the to do’s.   Once I started using toodledo, my calendar became so clear and so clean – just appointments and calls!  Plus toodledo captures all those sticky notes and the running commentary we have going on in our heads all the time trying to remember too much stuff.  I LOVE Toodledo!  My assistant, Anne Perry introduced me to it years ago.

This fun cork board is the perfect place to pin your dreams. Focusing and manifesting your goals and dreams is very important in the network marketing world. I have a few boards at home and on Pinterest that give me daily inspiration.  What you see on a regular basis will become much more real to you.  Dream Boards are incredibly powerful.  It is almost spooky how some of my dreams have come true – to the degree that I just stare at the dream board and shake my head at the reality of what has shown up in my life that mirrors the dream board exactly!  Even my engagement ring!

I love posting inspirational quotes in my newsletters and on my social media accounts. I always have a few books like this around so I can easily find new quotes to keep everyone motivated, including myself 😉  It is a nice pick-me-up for a few quiet moments a day.  It is so important to fill our minds and hearts with great messages.  Mindset makes a huge difference.  We think it is all about the technique, the how to’s and those are important but without a great mindset to put the how to’s to work, it won’t matter.  Stay inspired!

Sometimes you just need to take a break and clear your mind…and coloring is a great way to do it! You wouldn’t believe how relaxing it is to pick up a few pens and color. I recommend pairing with a nice cup of tea.  🙂  Coloring books have become quite popular for adults lately.  Another type of mediation.  My sister in law, Kath has colored in her journal for years!  It is very soothing.  Remember how much you loved it as a child.  You still do – you have just forgotten.  I rediscovered coloring books at a spiritual retreat last year.

Network marketers travel a lot! We are also constantly giving presentations, sending emails, hosting webinars and posting on our social media accounts so we need our computers with us whenever possible. This bag is a great Christmas gift because it protects your gadgets AND slides nicely over your suitcase.  And odds are good, if you have a travel bag, it is probably looking shabby or you have had it awhile.  Time to upgrade and I love that this one fits on top of the suitcase.  Easier to get around the airports.

Having a daily exercise is vital when you are working from home or traveling a lot. I love the Fitbit because it helps me calculate my activity and connects online so I can read my stats anywhere I go!  It is inspiring to see how you are doing throughout the day.  My goal is to step at least 10,000 steps a day and this helps me to reach that goal many more days than if I didn’t have this tracker.  It is easy to sit at the desk for hours and to talk on the phone in our business.  We need to get up and move!  I know I do.  This is a big 2016 goal for me!

2. iPhone Photography and Video Kit

Video marketing is a powerful tool in building your MLM business. I love this kit because it let’s me turn my smartphone into a mobile video studio. It also has a remote control so you don’t have to move your phone every time you start and stop. Pro tip: make sure you have great lighting or the video will look grainy. And….always shoot your video in a horizontal format.  This is a great and very easy to use gadget.  And the final product is much more professional because your hand isn’t shaking the camera!

iPads are a great Christmas gift for network marketers! You can use it for scheduling, communication, sharing tools and giving presentations. It is also great for working while traveling.  It feels different than your laptop or primary workstation at home too.  There is a bigger “fun” factor.  Presentations and videos look great on it too.  Prospects are impressed when you share your products and opportunity easily and casually on your iPad.

5 Tips For Actually Working at Home!

5 tips for working from home!

As anyone who works from home knows, it can be quite difficult to stay organized while in your home office. Although there are many advantages (like avoiding rush-hour traffic or being able to go to work in your pajamas) there are some very real challenges. It can be quite strenuous to keep your home office organized and free of distractions, such as household chores, errands, TV, children,spouses and pets. Not necessarily in that order!  Here are some tips for working from home so you can stay on track!  Especially during the Holidays this can be really challenging, but on the best of days, getting done what you need to in your home based business from your home office is a feat!  I love it and I can’t imagine otherwise but it does take focus and discipline too.  I haven’t had to drive a commute for 10 years and I can tell you, I do not miss it!

1. Remove the distractions. After all, distractions are the number one reason for being unproductive while working at home. Are you tempted by all the wonderful shows you could watch on TV? Or maybe the washing machine and the dishwasher calls you?  And the kids can be a bit demanding too if they are front and center.  As much as possible, keep these distractions out of reach.  Also, I like to keep my office area clean when working from home, that way I am not distracted by the things that need to be cleaned up.  I am someone that needs some order so I often start the day just tidying up my office for a few minute so it “feels good” to me as I am working.

2. Create your own dedicated office space.  It is very difficult to stay focused and motivated if you are working in your bedroom or on the couch. It is very important that you dedicate an area in your house to being your office space. Otherwise, it will be very difficult to keep your train of thought on track if you have a number of distractions staring you in the face because you are working on the living room couch or the kitchen table. If you don’t have an actual room for your home office with a door you can shut, then carve out a real space wherever it is and put a sign up for the family that when you are in work mode, they need to wait…Easier said than done, I know but we do train people (even family) how to treat us.  It is good for your family to see you focused and accomplishing too.   The best way to mentally get yourself into work mode is to create an area that is your dedicated office or space.  Make it feel good to you.  We spend a lot of time working so enjoy your surroundings whether that is a bouquet of fresh flowers, or your favorite music in the background, create an environment that you enjoy.  Simple things really do add up.

3. Keep your office stocked and ready to go. Make sure that you have all the supplies that you need so you don’t have to stop what you are doing to go grab them. I also like to have my favorite teas and healthy snacks stocked so I have something to keep me fueled.  Now that you are ready to go, practice setting aside 2 hours a day for dedicated focus time.  It is amazing how much you can get done when you power through 2 hours of serious focused time without distractions.

4. Set office hours that you will stick to. Just because you are working from home does not mean that you should work random hours. Or work all the time which I have been known to do…If you kind of work all the time, it isn’t dedicated or as focused.  Trust me, it is more fun when you can really dedicate the time to it versus being kind of paying attention to work and the family or other distractions at the same time.  This is a tough one for me but the experts say that you should come in at a set time each day and then leave at a set time.  I am laughing as I write that because that will definitely be a new discipline for me but I am willing to try!  If you have a family, it might be a good idea to keep a sign on the door with your office hours so that everyone in the house knows that your work time is off-limits. That will also serve as a visual reminder for you to keep on working 😉

5. Stay connected! Working from home does not mean you have to be isolated. Sometimes people will say they don’t like to work from home because they feel lonely or they miss the friendly banter with people at the office.  When we work from home, we need to work harder to create that.  Coffee dates and phone calls or quick walks outside can make a big difference.  Keeping in touch with your team on a regular basis can fulfill the personal touch we all need too.  All of these things will also help you remember that you are not alone on the job and keep you motivated.   There are so many advantages to working from home.  I love it and truly can’t imagine having to work in an office anymore but if you are new to this, there are some adjustments to make.  Whether you are new or not, I hope this article gave you some food for thought.  For all of you celebrating Thanksgiving this week, happiest of times with your family.  I am grateful for all of you and our community!

My Interview with Vince Reed, Network Marketing Nation

Recently I had an amazing opportunity to be interviewed by Vince Reed of Network Marketing Nation. I was able to share my experience in the network marketing industry and I hope it will help you become more successful online as social media marketers.   • The best thing about earning more money is the ability to inspire other people to take charge of their financial situations and become top earners! I have invested in that process over the years and I know it is a great use of my time.
  • What network marketing company should YOU work with? Do your research on the company, but also find a great team with an amazing leader. You should resonate with that leader’s style and integrity.  Your upline can make all the difference for you!
  • If you are just starting out in network marketing: it is important to laugh a lot.  And to bring your own personality into your business.  Just be you.  Don’t try to be anyone else!
  • Learn how to manifest your success! By reading and working with great masters, and consistently practicing spirituality and improving one’s skills with the laws of attraction, you can start manifesting the things you want.
  • Be consistent and always track your progress. A new person to the business needs to think of a BIG VISION and dedicate time to achieving that vision and do that every week.
  • Dedicate time to reaching out to 5 to 10 new people a day or a week (you choose) to build a network. Consistently work on this.  The speed that your business will grow ultimately depends on how many people see what you have to offer.
  • Check your ego at the door – remember: it is not about you, it’s about the team you work with.

How to Be Consistent in Five Steps

Consistency is Key

Learning how to be consistent is the best way to achieve long-term greatness in anything you do – from taking care of your health, your network marketing business or your relationships. However, learning how to be consistent is also the one thing that we humans have the most difficult time perfecting! It is most difficult when we are trying to improve something in our life. Unfortunately, we have no choice but to learn to be consistent in anything we do. In network marketing, consistency translates into making more money and creating the life you really want!

Here are just a few simple steps to learn if you want to improve an aspect in your life and become more consistent with anything you do. Set time aside for actions that will get you further in your career or your personal life. Those goals are definitely worth working on. The rewards are huge and you will never be disappointed. Here are five steps to learn how to be more consistent.

1. Remember to keep THE WHY you are trying to achieve your goals if you are going to stay connected to what you are doing. It is very important if you are going to have a clear compelling vision of what you’re trying to achieve and know why you want to. VISUALIZE the house you want, the car you wish to drive, the life you want for you and your family. This will fuel your fire. I am a big fan of dream boards.  I have a dream board for every major area of my life.  One of these days I am going to create a video showing you my dream boards that I created years ago and show you what has come true from those visions.

2. Do not make a generalized plan to “be more consistent.” It is important to pick your battles carefully. Just pick one or two things that you want to work on and stick with it. It is just a common fact that all of us have a limited capacity when it comes to will power and discipline. For example, a doctor or therapist will recommend that you don’t try to quit something like consuming sweets and drinking at the same time – otherwise you might fail at both. Instead, try to be more consistent with JUST ONE particular aspect of your life, like making more prospect phone calls. Setting specific goals will give you something to strive for. We just can’t achieve everything at once otherwise we will overwhelm ourselves.

3. It is important that you create space in your schedule to work on your goals. Stephen Covey, the highly regarded author of the best-selling “7 Habits of Highly Effective People” once said, “Don’t prioritize your schedule, schedule your priorities.” That distinction may be subtle, but it is also very important. If you are trying to make a specific activity or trait more consistent in your life, you have to build your whole life around it rather then trying to fit it in your normal daily schedule. For example, if you are trying to to build your network marketing business, it is important to set aside a few hours or more each day to do so.  None of us think we have enough time, yet we do find time for the most important things.  If you aren’t getting to something, it may be because you haven’t decided that it is really important to you.

4. You have to improve your willpower and ignore your feelings. That is, you need to ignore that voice in your head that says: “I don’t feel like it!” Anytime you are trying to be consistent at something that is important to you, you will sometimes hear that little voice. You have to train yourself to overpower that voice in your head if you want to learn how to be consistent. You just cannot be consistent without improving your willpower and remembering that you have to practice whatever it is you are trying to improve over and over again, even if you don’t feel like it. It is also important to ignore the negative voices inside your head. You know, those voices that say: “I can’t do this,” or “I can’t seem to stick with this!” or “I’m too lazy!” Just keep working on it and you will get better. Remember, that it is okay if the changes are occurring slowly – it is impossible to be perfect at everything.  One of the biggest mistakes we make in our network marketing business is not giving it enough time – both short term time and long term time.  You have to carve out the time and decide it is unconditional.

5. Most important of all: be realistic – it takes time to practice! Keep in mind that you won’t start out always being consistent 100% of the time but that’s okay. Be kind to yourself! Don’t think that if you miss one workout or one day meeting prospects, that it was a waste. It is okay to fall off the wagon time and time again – everyone does. Just don’t think that because you fell off the wagon that you can’t catch up… you just need to run and catch up to it!  What is that old saying – “It isn’t about how many times you fall down.  It is about how many times you get back up!”

Network Marketing Tip: Are Home Parties Even Worth It?

Are Home Parties still worth it?  Still necessary?

I have 8 plus years experience in the industry and have some thoughts about this.  With the age of the internet tools we have available today and all the ways there are to connect with social media, I am hearing more and more often that home parties aren’t worth it.   Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE the tools we have available on the internet and I have sponsored over 70 people in the last year from social media connections.  And I also love hosting and attending home parties.  Home parties are still a GREAT TOOL in the tool box for network marketing.

You might hear an internet marketer say you can build your network marketing business all online.  And you can, but will YOU?  Building ALL online is done successfully by very few people.  And if you talk to almost every 6 figure and 7 figure income earner that exists today, we will tell you that our success comes from a combination of offline (one and ones, home parties, events) and online (facebook, webinars, linked in…).  There are many top earners today that have achieved their success strictly through offline activities, but the world has changed and we do have these incredible online tools available and it does make sense to learn these new skills. I am just saying don’t throw a proven technique out because it seems old school.

I believe Home Parties/Home Business Reviews are still very effective especially when you are just getting your business started and/or you want to jumpstart your business.  And this is true for most of your team too.  Social media is just a way to connect with people, often we still need to pick up the phone and talk to someone if it is someone we are really going to build a partnership with.   One of the biggest reasons people stay in their network marketing business is because of the community we create and home parties are one of the very best ways to stay in touch, to be in community and to get to know your team and prospects.  It is very hard to create online what happens at a home party.

How important is your Money Mindset to your Network Marketing Business?

Your money mindset will absolutely make a difference in your network marketing business and it is also very important for your success!  Let me ask you a question.  How do you feel about this sentence:  You will only make as much money as you have developed your mind for wealth?

Does it make sense to you?  Do you really understand what the message is?  Read it again.  Do you believe you can develop your mind for wealth or for at least more money?  I do.  Because I did exactly that.  Today’s blog is about something that is very important to me: our money mindset.

How do you feel about money?  Do you really know how you feel about money?  Do you know what your money mindset is? Do you hear yourself say things like “he is filthy rich.”  Or “she is so rich, she must be lucky.”   Let’s take the “filthy rich” example.  If you think something is “filthy”, do you want more of it?  Who wants to be filthy anything?  A lot of people think that wealthy people are selfish, which always intrigues me because most wealthy people are actually very generous.  If you think wealthy people are selfish or acquired their wealth through unethical means, do you even want to become wealthy?   How do you feel when someone else has a lot of money?  Are you critical of others success?  Do you think celebrities, athletes and movie stars are “just lucky”?  If rich people are “bad”, are broke people “better”?  Who has the opportunity to serve more people: The person with means or the person without?  Sometime people get stuck that if they have more then someone else has less.  That isn’t true.  You need to believe in abundance and that you can be wealthy without taking anything away from anyone else.

Maybe you don’t want to become wealthy, maybe you just want to get past the just getting by phase.  It all works the same.  We limit ourselves.  We are the ones that put the cap on our potential, including our earnings potential.  Can you see how your language, how your beliefs about money could be sabotaging your ability to create more income in your life?  You can change your money mindset for sure.

It is fascinating to listen to people’s language about making money and rich people.  Most of us are walking around with the wiring from what we overheard about money when we were kids by family and friends who didn’t realize what an impact those faulty wires would have on us.   That was the beginning of our money mindset.  It is up to us to improve and expand it.

Change your Money Mindset. Change your life.

Money Mindset Exercise

Here is a quick exercise for you.  Pull out a blank sheet of paper and draw a line down the middle.  Write down Money is at the top of the left side of the page and Rich people are at the top of the right side of the page.  Now finish each sentence with as many adjectives as you can for about a minute each.  Now look at the words.  Are they empowering words?  Are they words like difficult, a pain, never enough, or hard to get?  If the words for how you describe money and rich people are less than positive, then you have some work to do to change the wiring you have acquired a long the way.  It happens to all of us and it is something you can change.  Just by becoming aware of it.  I promise you – it is holding you back both in life and in your network marketing business.

I believe money is fun.  I love investing money.  I love giving money to my favorite causes.  I love spending money on my friends and family.  I love creating passive income from my network marketing business.  But It definitely wasn’t always that way.  My parents had nine kids (in 11 years!) and money was definitely not abundant.  There were a lot of things we couldn’t afford.  I learned a lot of good things about money from my parents like saving and living within your means but what I learned about attracting money and investing and improving my money mindset came much later.

About 15 years ago, I went to work on my money mindset.  I started reading books about creating wealth (Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill is still my favorite). I started associating with people who were very successful.  I started asking them questions and asking for their advice. I started paying attention to their language around money.  I have never heard a person who has a lot of money say “I can’t afford that”.  They may say, “I don’t need that.”  It is a choice, not a foregone conclusion.  Watch what you say to your kids.  Instead of saying “we can’t afford that”, how about a more empowering question like “how could we afford that?”  It will help create some entrepreneurship in your kids and it opens up the possibilities instead of shutting them down.  Start your kids off with a healthier money mindset than most of us started with.

Will your money mindset affect your network marketing business

Would you like to stop using language that doesn’t serve you?  If you have limiting beliefs about money then, no surprise – you won’t have much.  You are not better or able to serve many by staying broke. When you change the language of broke and move towards abundance, you change the possibilities for what is coming your way for the better!  And the others in your network marketing business will notice a difference in you.  This is a great thing to teach people, too.

What if your money mindset changed to where you could make as much money as you possibly could?

What if you made as much as you could?  What if you could give away a lot of money to help others?  What if you became one of the top earners in your network marketing business?  What if a lot more of us believed that was possible and went out and did it?  Here is the biggest tip for creating more income:  create more value in the marketplace.  The value you create is directly related to the income you will earn.  If you want more money, provide more value!

I believe we are here to help each other and one of the best ways to serve is to create more income in our lives so we have the opportunity to help more people.

Know your Why

Do you want to be a better sponsor for your brand new person?

Here is a network marketing tip for you:  If you want to be a better sponsor, Know Your Why for building your business and help your brand new person to know their why for building their business. It seems so simple but there is more to this than you would think at first glance. If you add this one thing, you will build a stronger, happier and bigger team.

In the network marketing profession, we talk a lot about the need to know your why.  We ask our brand new person (or we should be asking) “Why do you want to do this business?”  And we often hear “your why needs to make you cry”.  (I don’t think my why has ever made me cry – but it does move me into action.)  If you want to be a better sponsor, you need to help your brand new person to see that their why needs to be big enough so it will get them up out of that comfy chair and into action.  This is a really important question to ask your newly sponsored person.

When I first got into the industry in 2006, I remember feeling awkward about asking someone what their why was and to share with me their dreams.  It seemed too personal.  Remember, I come from a big American corporate background – we never did anything like that!  So I didn’t do this first step for the first year.   And then I realized that if I wanted to be a better sponsor to the people that I was bringing into the business, that I might want to include what I was being taught as being the first step.  And when I finally got the nerve up to start asking people about their why, I was amazed at how powerful it was.  People that I had known for years started sharing with me things I had never known that they wanted to do.  Molly wants to build a meditation retreat center and Sue wants to create movies about kids that have overcome hardships.  I had no idea until I asked the question.

Network Marketing Tip:  Help people to understand that to know your why for building this business is key.

When I started asking people what their why was, the conversation around this question really helped to create a bond between  my brand new teammate and me – even when it was someone I had known for years. But the key to asking your newly sponsored person about their why is to keep asking the question.  Everyone will say when asked “tell me your why for building this business”:  “because I want more money”, “because I want to get out of debt”, or “because I want financial freedom”.  And those are great goals.  But the money all by itself isn’t enough.  Trust me on this, it isn’t enough!

Know your Why to build a Network Marketing Business

When somebody says they want to pay off their bills and that is why they are coming into business with you, if you want to be a better sponsor, you need to ask them to think bigger.

So keep asking questions.  Network Marketing Tip:  Leaders ask questions.  Follow up with these questions:  What are you going to do with the money?  Why would financial freedom be important?  What does it look like?  Where do you live?  What does your house look like?  Who is with you?  What car do you drive?  Where do you travel to?  How do you travel?  Are there causes that you want to give to?  What are you going to do for you, your family and friends that is different?

If you want to be a better sponsor, keep asking questions….

When to Use 3 Way Calls in Network Marketing

Most people don’t have these answers right away, but given a few minutes, they will come up with the real reasons and their real why to build a home based business.  The reason why we don’t have the answers right away, is nobody in our traditional business life or even personal life, asks us this!  And that is exactly why it is so powerful.  By asking your brand new person this you are helping them to visualize what success would actually look like for them.  That is much more powerful than a blanket “I want financial freedom.”  You are helping them to figure out where they are going and to FEEL what that would feel like.  You are helping to anchor that feeling so when the ups and downs happen, they can tap into that feeling to remind themselves why they are building a network marketing business.  And if you want to be a better sponsor, you will remind them of that feeling too when the ups and downs inevitably happen.

This conversation between two people is actually a wonderful experience for both of you!

Network Marketing Tip: Mentors are Important!

Network Marketing Tip:  Is it important to meet Industry Leaders?

The short answer is yes. Absolutely.  Success really does leave clues.  And if you want what successful people have – the easiest way for you to get there is to follow in the footsteps of people who have already been there.  My life is absolutely different and better today because of mentors AKA Industry Leaders.  Mentors will help you in ways you can’t even imagine today.  Real leaders have a heart space to help other people become successful too!

Here is a network marketing tip and example for you of what I am talking about.  I just returned home from the Top Earner Academy event with Ray and Jessica Higdon, two rock stars in the network marketing training space. I had the great pleasure of meeting Lisa Grossmann and Curtis Broome while I was there. Lisa and Curtis have been in the network marketing industry for about 25 years and hugely successful in building great businesses all over the world AND consult with many network marketing companies on how to be well, just better.  Do you think they might be able to teach us a few things?  Do you think they are true leaders in our industry?

I loved hearing Lisa speak at the Top Earner Academy event and knew that I wanted to meet her and get a chance to talk with her before the event was over. I was surprised (and elated) when Lisa came up to me after I spoke on the Success Panel and said “I am so glad I get to meet you. I have been following you for a long time.” I thought – “really, me?”.   (Do you recognize that little voice inside all of us that questions if we really have something worthwhile to offer? Ignore it.  Tell it to be quiet and go away.) Needless to say, I was very happy that she did come up to me!  Because even though we hadn’t met, I knew Lisa was one of the top leaders in our industry!

Take advantage of the opportunities before you and talk to the Leaders in the room!

After the session that day, I was so tired and really just wanted to head back to my room and was doing so, when I heard my higher self say, “you need to go back and find Lisa and Curtis and see if they want to go to dinner tonight or meet for breakfast tomorrow. You have been given this opportunity for a reason.” So I made myself walk back, found Lisa and asked her. And I did indeed get to spend several hours talking with Lisa and Curtis that night. You know when you make a connection with someone and you just know it will be an important relationship in your life? Well, that is how I felt.

The moral to the story is:  first, put yourself in situations where you can meet industry leaders and potential mentors and when you do put yourself in situations where you have the opportunity to reach up and meet someone  – say an Industry Leader, that you really admire and want to get to know, then let them know that. Take advantage of the situation you put yourself in. Create the situations where that is possible. Recognize who are the potential agents for good (friends/mentors/trusted advisors/industry leaders) in your life and seek them out. Don’t give in to “I’m tired” or “they won’t want to talk to me” or “maybe another time”. No, right now is the time that you have been offered to meet that person.  It is good to reach up!

Force yourself to walk back and put yourself smack into the situations and connections and friendships that can make a difference for you. It might be a successful business owner you know that is just looking for a new business. It might be a teacher or a mentor that you meet at an event. It might be the organizer of a networking event you just attended. The best way to create success is to surround yourself with people who have done what you want to do. Those opportunities happen more often than we realize – don’t ignore them or cave into the little voice that holds us back. I am so glad I didn’t the other night!

Overall, the top earner academy was a huge success and a great learning experience.
