Affirmations for Unlimited Wealth

An affirmation is a phrase that you say over and over again to make a declaration to yourself and the universe. When you say affirmations repeatedly, a couple of things happen. First, you are sending a message to your brain that stimulates a filter that lets in information that we need, and filters out information that we don’t. As you start focusing in on your affirmation, you will start to notice more ways to accomplish your goals. For example, if you focus your mind on generating more leads, you may notice more networking opportunities. If wealth is your goal, investment and business opportunities will be more noticeable to you. Our brain is understanding what matters to us based on our goals and desires.

Having affirmations can help you dial in to your goals and help you achieve them. They also keep you in a positive mind state, which is very important in the network marketing industry.  What we focus on, we create.  What is your self-talk?  You hear you more than anyone else, so be careful what you are saying to you.  A positive mindset and great attitude will change your business – and your life!

I prefer to say my affirmations in the morning so I can set the tone for my whole day. I like to make a hot cup of tea and take a moment to look over my list of my favorite affirmations. Not a bad way to start the day right?

How to Build the Right Network Marketing Team

In the past year, my network marketing team has grown beyond my wildest dreams. I am working alongside some of my best friends and brightest stars in the industry. I focused my energy into finding the right people and investing my energy into those relationships. And it pays off!

When you first start out, building a great network marketing team can be a challenge. However, having a productive and successful network marketing team is absolutely essential if you are going to grow your business. It can’t be all about you.  This is teamwork at its best!  Here are a few tips to train and launch a superstar network marketing team.

1. Be sure to follow the leader and accept input from more experienced network marketers. If you are going to train a successful network marketing team you need to be trainable yourself! To find some resources, I would advise that you first find leaders in your own business. Next, carefully watch what they are doing and follow in their footsteps. If you ask someone else for advice, listen to them and let them do more of the talking! You may be thinking “No duh!” but often times I find that people get in their own way by not listening. Ask great questions and then stop talking.  Listen.  Remember: those before you have blazed the way for success and it may be wise to listen to them.

2. Keep sponsoring! Do not get stuck in a “management mode” where you train a few people to sponsor others and then stop sponsoring distributors or reps yourself. Your team will do what you do.  The good, the bad and the ugly!  You must continue to sponsor others so you can serve as a model for your team. If you are going to be successful you must ALWAYS bring new people in! Be sure to continually engage with new people, meet new prospects and look for more people to add on to the team. You never know what network marketing gem may be waiting around the corner!  And talking to new people is fun!  It will keep the business interesting and engaging for you.

3. Remember to always make yourself available as a resource to your network marketing team. To train someone effectively, as a sponsor, you must make sure to get him or her started right. Your job is to educate people about what they need to know to get their own business running efficiently. The last thing you want is for your MLM to be dependent on you for everything. If that happens, then you won’t get the duplication and freedom you want. Remember your goal is to train them to become independent of you as quickly as possible.

4. Never abandon someone! It is a common mistake when training others to be a MLM to get him or her started and then, once trained, leave them alone to figure the rest out while you move on to the next person. Be sure to sit down with them and make sure they have all the tools to properly get started. Then, even after they are trained, continue to be a resource for them.

5. Watch who you work with when you are building your team. Do not waste resources working with someone who just is not putting forward an effort to be the best network marketer they can be. If you continue to spend time with people who are not engaged, that will only create struggle and a serious lack of fun. If you want to create a successful business, then work with people who are motivated to be successful too and are actually doing the activities.  It’s great to give people “homework” and if they do that, then move them to the next phase.  If they don’t, then don’t want it for them more than they want it for themselves.

6. Be sure to set reasonable expectations. Do not promise them the world if you are trying to train someone to be successful. Never say something like: “You are going to be successful beyond your wildest dreams and make a lot of money very quickly.” Do not promise them that it will be easy – network marketing is never easy, it requires consistent effort and time. However, there is also great potential in the network-marketing model. I was in corporate America for over 20 years and I never saw anything like our business model potential there!  Just be sure to represent the business accurately so that you can train your teammate to be in it for the long haul.

IT IS possible to become successful and build a fortune in this industry. It just requires dedication, drive, ambition, time and some hard work. There will be ups and downs, good times and bad, but if you stick with it and keep these tips in mind, you can build a powerful and successful network marketing team.  See you at the top!

Have Fun With Your Network Marketing Business

This week I am going to talk about having more fun in your business! Thanks to smartphones, tablets and unlimited internet access, we are always connected and can always be working. It is hard to go out to a nice dinner with friends without getting an urgent email or a business call. It’s almost impossible to ignore those tiny notifications lighting up your screen at every hour of the day, but sometimes you absolutely need to. Hard work is the key to success, but in this blog post, I want to remind you and encourage you to have lots of fun with your business, too.

It’s easy to tell yourself you simply don’t have time to have fun or to play more, especially if you are driven and hardworking. (like someone I know…) But, taking time to have fun in your business and life is not just an option – it is critically important. We daydream about the life we will live when we have more money, but do you really want to live your life for “Someday”?

If you are a happy person, then it will be easier to create success in all aspects of your life. It will also make people more excited to work with you. After all, who would want to work with someone that is constantly stressed and burned out? To create the best team possible, you need to make sure that people see you having fun in both your business and your life. Here are some tips on how to have fun with your business:

 

  1. Be sure you start the day in a happy place. Start the day by listing all of the things that you are happy about. For example, you are your own boss and can choose your own hours or list the 5 things that you are grateful for that day.  If you are your own boss, that is something that most people only dream about. Chances are, you are living a life that is better than ¾ of the people on this planet and we want to be grateful for that. So write it down and remember what you are grateful for. Then take that optimism to work with you and start to have fun with your business.  Don’t take everything so seriously.  If someone annoys you, walk away and be glad you aren’t them. When you are on conference calls, be the person that interjects some humor and fun too.  One thing I know for sure – gratitude changes everything.

 

  1. Find ways to make the people around you laugh! That’s right. It is the best way to have fun in business. This is especially important when you find yourself slipping into a bad mood (we all get there!). Rather than creating a ripple of tension around you, create a ripple of giggles! Just remember that you don’t need to take everything so personally. If you find yourself stuck in that mindset, maybe you should diffuse tensions by making a joke or something light hearted. Just be silly sometimes!  My Mom is one of the funniest people I know.  She raised 9 kids and has had her share of ups and downs for sure but she always finds something to laugh about.  We were very lucky to be raised by her and I try to remember to be light and to find the humor in things like she does.  You don’t have to be the life of the party all the time, but it is fun to make people laugh!

 

  1. Remember to DO something FUN! I know it takes a lot of time and work to build our businesses. But you need to understand that you will NEVER do everything that you need to do.  There is just not enough time in the day. So, don’t let your to-do list run your life. Some mornings, you just have to wake up and think about what you WANT to do rather than what you HAVE to do. To have fun in business, you need to take time to do things out of enjoyment rather than necessity. Even if you just take the time to do ONE fun thing a day, you will notice a difference in your mental health and will have more fun with your business!  I have a journal practice where I ask myself what am I going to do today just for the fun of it?  I can work a lot.  My goal for this year is to play more which means I have to schedule the play.  Just booked a night to go watch my friend perform Flamenco next week!

 

  1. Make every effort to add some FUN to your work related tasks. To do that, you must consciously decide to add the energy of fun to whatever you need to do. It may help to listen to some of your favorite music while you work or to change up your environment by working in the garden or a local coffee shop.  I like to take breaks with my computer at the coffee shop around the corner in my San Francisco neighborhood.  Listening to music always lifts my spirits and have to remind myself to turn the music on.

  1. Last but not least, remember to dream! I for one love dream boards. I look at mine as I drink my morning cup of tea and think about my plans for the future. It also helps me to start my day off with a sense of fun, peace and success. Dream boards are a great way to get very specific about what you would like to create in your life. There are so many things that have come true from my dream boards!  Even my husband and our 3 kids.  I have a picture of a very oddly shaped palm tree on a beach on my dream board and when Mark and I were in Tahiti on the beach last year, I looked over at this palm tree near us and it was exactly like the picture on my dream board.   There are so many areas of my life that have manifested from my dream boards. Plus, a dream board party is a great way to have some fun, get together with teammates and relax!

So if you want to have more fun in your business, keep up the hard work, but also, remember to relax, let loose and enjoy life! Laugh more. When people see how much fun you are having, more people will want to be a part of your team.  Hope you are having a great January and your year is off to a great start!

My Best Network Marketing Tips from 2015

Welcome to 2016! The past year has been a whirlwind; it was full of so many amazing events. From traveling the world to building an amazing team, my schedule was packed tight. In this special blog post, I am going to highlight some of my biggest moments in 2015 and the lessons I learned that you can apply to 2016. These network marketing tips and insights will help you take your business to the next level in the new year.  Happiest of New Years to all of you!

My Best Network Marketing Tips


This year my life changed and the lives of my team members all because of one little magical vial of anti-wrinkle cream called Instantly Ageless. When Instantly Ageless hit the market, we knew it was powerful because we could see the results, but no one could predict what happened next. Bekki Hurley – my amazing friend and a Jeunesse Diamond – made a two and half minute video of herself applying Instantly Ageless and posted it on Facebook. In the video Bekki applies the cream and by the end of the video, the bags under her eyes disappear. The video started to take off immediately once it was posted to Facebook. Then the views just kept rolling in! Thousands and thousands of people watched the video, generating hundreds of leads. But then things got even better. Bekki’s video started reaching into the MILLIONS. Imagine how many leads that brought in. In a short amount of time, our team exploded with new team members. Many team members jumped through the ranks. It was a spectacular time in our career and to be in the network marketing industry.  So what did we learn from this?

Network marketing tips:

One of the most important things I learned in 2015 was the power of video. Videos allow viewers to take in so much more information and get a glimpse of your personality. They also get higher engagement on social media channels, help your SEO standings and increase traffic to your website. In 2016, take advantage of video. Your videos don’t have to have a perfect production value. Just grab an iPhone, stand in good lighting and be natural. Then share, share, share!  Bekki’s video that went viral like no other network marketing video has ever done before was done in her bathroom with mediocre lighting, no makeup and no script.  Look what happened!

P.s. Making a video like the one above is also a great tool to get your team excited about their achievements over the past year.

 Traveling the World

Network Marketing TipsMy passport really filled up in 2015! I went to Las Vegas, Orlando, Tahiti, Riviera Maya, the UK, Singapore, Turkey, and Israel – all to build my network marketing business. Well, and maybe for a little fun too 😉 Traveling is one of my favorite things to do and I was able to see so many new places and create memories that will last a lifetime. I made sure to share my adventures with my team, friends and fans by taking photos and posting them to my social media platforms. I even got a little blogging done along the way. I also made a lot of new friends and new networking connections. It was amazing to meet some of the people that I have been working with remotely.

The best part about all of these trips is that almost all of them were paid for by my network marketing business. Hard work pays off!

Network marketing tips:

So what did I take away from my travels besides a nice tan? I learned that sharing your travels is a HUGE recruiting and community building tool. If you want to encourage your team to reach higher ranks, show them what life is like when you do! Show them what beaches they will get to relax on, the delicious food they can eat and the epic sights they can see. It can be hard to focus on sharing your trip online when you are having so much fun being unplugged from the internet, but I highly recommend it. Taking trips with your team is also a great bonding experience.  Share your personal travel pictures for sure!

Public speaking…hint: it’s not that bad.

One of the highlights of my year was speaking at Eric Worre’s Go Pro Recruiting Mastery event. Eric Worre has been a great influence in my career and in the network marketing industry as a whole. His network marketing tips have helped hundreds of thousands of people build better business. When I was asked to present not once, but twice, I was over the moon. The topic I chose to discuss was financial literacy for network marketers –  something I am very passionate about.  It was a dream to walk the same stage as some of the brightest stars in the network marketing industry.

So what did I learn from speaking at these events?   It reinforced for me how important it is to be comfortable telling your story and speaking from the stage.  When I say speaking from the stage, that could be a real stage, your living room or your local coffee shop.  The “stage” just means you as the presenter. Many of us shy away from this.  Many of us don’t like to hold the microphone.  Trust me, if you really want the lifestyle that goes with being a successful network marketer, you need to get more and more comfortable talking in front of people.  You need to get good at sharing your story and what it is about your business that you are passionate about.  Stepping out of our comfort zone isn’t always easy, but it is always worth it.  You will even get to the point where you enjoy and even love public speaking!

My 2015 was amazing and thank you all for being a part of it. I hope that we can all learn from each other’s successes and make 2016 even better!  I wish you all the best in 2016.  I appreciate each of you!

Read this Before You Hire a Business Coach

Hire a business coach.

It is the end of the year and when we start thinking about our next year goals, resolutions and hopefully dreams too!  Sometimes we start to think about who else do we need on our team.  Here is the question of the day: Do you need to hire a business coach? Or do you need to take advantage of the mentorship and leadership already available for you in your home based business?  A great coach CAN be a great way to boost your network marketing skills and take your business to the next level. They may help you recruit more reps, get more leads or help your team to even become top earners for the company. However, a business coach is not for every situation or everyone. Over the past few years, I have worked with a couple of extremely talented people that taught me things that have literally translated into many thousands of dollars.  Not to mention, making my life and my team’s lives easier and more productive.  I have also always created great relationships with the leaders in my company, my upline, my sponsor and the corporate executive team.  All of these relationships will lead you to more success and create value in your life.  And more friends too!

Working with a coach has been one of the biggest learning tools I could ask for. You may be an avid reader and resourceful, but being able to ask questions and get advice is so valuable in this industry. Think of coaching as an investment to your business and your life. What I love about our business is you don’t always have to “hire” this.  Our business has a built in coaching system so make sure you aren’t spending money you don’t need to but if you find that you do need to or want to, then by all means take that leap.  We can always afford to learn more!  Think about how much more money you will be able to make because of what you learned!

Hire a Business Coach, But First…

Here are some of my suggestions you should consider before you actually hire a business coach:

1. If you don’t know what you want, then you should spend some time thinking about it before you hire a coach. It may be smart to make a list of goals you would like them to help you with. If you don’t have goals, that is a recipe for failure. Never hire anyone if you do not have goals! Otherwise you may just become one of those clients that just complain about not getting the results they expected. Having a list will give both of you a clear understanding of what you are working towards. I would also suggest including a time frame so that you know when these goals will be achieved.

2. Think about what you expect to get from a business coach. Perhaps what you really need is a therapist? LOL. That was a joke…  sort of….A business coach is there to help your business, not work through your personal issues. Making the move into full time network marketing can be a hard choice for some to make. Many people haven’t started their own business and there is a lot of responsibility – and a lot of reward! Your business coach is there to guide you on how to build your team. It isn’t their responsibility to guide you through your life choices. Before you decide to hire a business coach, you should make sure that the work you are currently doing is something you would want to do a year from now or even five years from now. Let your business coach accentuate the work you are already doing.

3. Are you happy with the results you are getting, but know that they could be better? That is the BEST time to hire a business coach! A coach should not be hired to motivate you. Motivation comes from within and if you don’t feel motivated, odds are good it is because you haven’t really defined your goals and dreams.  A coach should be hired to improve your work performance. They may do this by asking the right questions to help you learn ways to boost your performance and answer your questions to help you more quickly learn what you want to learn. Also think about their talents. You will get the most out of their expertise by learning what you can on your own and really focusing in on their best talents. If they are having to school you in network marketing 101, you aren’t getting to the good stuff!

If you feel like you do need more training and whether you can afford a coach right now or not….READ! I cannot stress this enough. I am an avid reader and their is a plethora of knowledge online right at your fingertips. Read a lot and read often.  There is so much available online now.  I love watching youtube videos several times a week both for inspiration and for helping me to think about a new way to do something in our business.  I am not saying you need a coach or should hire a coach.  That will depend on where you are, what skillsets you bring to the table, your finances and your network marketing team.  Some people can get everything they need within their own team and company.  Others need more.  Just wanted to give you my 2 cents on what to consider.

Have you noticed that phone calls are not winning the popularity contest this year? People are starting to respond less and less to phone calls, and I can’t blame them. How many telemarketers call you? How much easier is it to just send a text? No one wants to talk on the phone anymore, let alone strike a conversation with a complete stranger! This makes cold calling even harder. Fortunately, we no longer have to use the phone like in years past to grow our network marketing businesses. In this post, I will share the best alternatives to cold calling I have found over the past few years – this is valuable information folks!

Thanks to the advent of social media and emails, we now have a new way to do business. We can speak directly to our leads through email, social media and text messaging. Everyone is happy. The lead is happy because they can respond to a message with less effort or ignore easily if they choose. The network marketer is jumping for joy because it’s way faster to send out 20 text messages or Facebook messages than make 20 phone calls.  I am not saying don’t make any calls.  Phone calls are still important and should be a part of your marketing efforts AND you want to add texting and FB messages/LinkedIn messages.  Phone calls still work for warm market calls and follow ups.

One of the most important ways to build up your company is to pay attention to where customers want to get their information. We have to recognize that customers no longer really want to talk on the phone – so try not to to rely on cold calling as your main source of lead generation. If someone will not answer a call when it’s their Aunt calling, why would they answer the phone if they don’t know who is calling? Therefore, it is important for network marketers to figure out what type of system will allow the customer to contact the business in a way that they feel comfortable. In the year 2015, it is obvious that the best platform to reach customers or potential customers is through social media and texting via our smart phones.

You want to keep a phone line open so that people can reach you during normal business hours. However, you will soon find that most of your leads will want to reach back to you through email,texting or social media.  I think it is easier and preferable to get the word out about your products and business via social media, texting or emails, rather than cold calling. The leads will be much more accepting if you build a relationship with them online first. It gives them a chance to learn more about you and warm up your proposal. They can look at your website, blog, Facebook page, Instagram – you get the point. They will feel like they know you.  People like purchasing from people they have a connection with.

Then you will not only be welcomed if you decide to call, they may even call you first. In other words, you should use social media like Facebook or Twitter, or email to “warm up” your potential lead. For example, if you have an email list for potential leads, make sure to ask all the right questions to get a response. You can even use the Internet to hold online classes, info summits and meetings to get your potential customer’s attention. Remember that social media, texting and email are how most people prefer to communicate now.  They will talk to you when they are really interested.  You get them interested via all the great tools we have available today.  I personally don’t care for cold calls.  That doesn’t mean it can’t still work and some people love cold calling.  Just making the point that in todays world, it is a good idea to go to where your leads are and speak their ideal language to get them interested.  Social media is a game changer for network marketers.  We can never again say we have run out of people.  Make 5 new social media connections a day (choose your favorite platform – mine is Facebook) and build rapport with them and if you do that for 30 days in a row, you will be amazed at the number of new prospects, customers, and potential for both you will have.

This fun cork board is the perfect place to pin your dreams. Focusing and manifesting your goals and dreams is very important in the network marketing world. I have a few boards at home and on Pinterest that give me daily inspiration.  What you see on a regular basis will become much more real to you.  Dream Boards are incredibly powerful.  It is almost spooky how some of my dreams have come true – to the degree that I just stare at the dream board and shake my head at the reality of what has shown up in my life that mirrors the dream board exactly!  Even my engagement ring!

I love posting inspirational quotes in my newsletters and on my social media accounts. I always have a few books like this around so I can easily find new quotes to keep everyone motivated, including myself 😉  It is a nice pick-me-up for a few quiet moments a day.  It is so important to fill our minds and hearts with great messages.  Mindset makes a huge difference.  We think it is all about the technique, the how to’s and those are important but without a great mindset to put the how to’s to work, it won’t matter.  Stay inspired!

Sometimes you just need to take a break and clear your mind…and coloring is a great way to do it! You wouldn’t believe how relaxing it is to pick up a few pens and color. I recommend pairing with a nice cup of tea.  🙂  Coloring books have become quite popular for adults lately.  Another type of mediation.  My sister in law, Kath has colored in her journal for years!  It is very soothing.  Remember how much you loved it as a child.  You still do – you have just forgotten.  I rediscovered coloring books at a spiritual retreat last year.

Network marketers travel a lot! We are also constantly giving presentations, sending emails, hosting webinars and posting on our social media accounts so we need our computers with us whenever possible. This bag is a great Christmas gift because it protects your gadgets AND slides nicely over your suitcase.  And odds are good, if you have a travel bag, it is probably looking shabby or you have had it awhile.  Time to upgrade and I love that this one fits on top of the suitcase.  Easier to get around the airports.

Having a daily exercise is vital when you are working from home or traveling a lot. I love the Fitbit because it helps me calculate my activity and connects online so I can read my stats anywhere I go!  It is inspiring to see how you are doing throughout the day.  My goal is to step at least 10,000 steps a day and this helps me to reach that goal many more days than if I didn’t have this tracker.  It is easy to sit at the desk for hours and to talk on the phone in our business.  We need to get up and move!  I know I do.  This is a big 2016 goal for me!

Video marketing is a powerful tool in building your MLM business. I love this kit because it let’s me turn my smartphone into a mobile video studio. It also has a remote control so you don’t have to move your phone every time you start and stop. Pro tip: make sure you have great lighting or the video will look grainy. And….always shoot your video in a horizontal format.  This is a great and very easy to use gadget.  And the final product is much more professional because your hand isn’t shaking the camera!

iPads are a great Christmas gift for network marketers! You can use it for scheduling, communication, sharing tools and giving presentations. It is also great for working while traveling.  It feels different than your laptop or primary workstation at home too.  There is a bigger “fun” factor.  Presentations and videos look great on it too.  Prospects are impressed when you share your products and opportunity easily and casually on your iPad.

5 Tips For Actually Working at Home!

5 tips for working from home!

As anyone who works from home knows, it can be quite difficult to stay organized while in your home office. Although there are many advantages (like avoiding rush-hour traffic or being able to go to work in your pajamas) there are some very real challenges. It can be quite strenuous to keep your home office organized and free of distractions, such as household chores, errands, TV, children,spouses and pets. Not necessarily in that order!  Here are some tips for working from home so you can stay on track!  Especially during the Holidays this can be really challenging, but on the best of days, getting done what you need to in your home based business from your home office is a feat!  I love it and I can’t imagine otherwise but it does take focus and discipline too.  I haven’t had to drive a commute for 10 years and I can tell you, I do not miss it!

1. Remove the distractions. After all, distractions are the number one reason for being unproductive while working at home. Are you tempted by all the wonderful shows you could watch on TV? Or maybe the washing machine and the dishwasher calls you?  And the kids can be a bit demanding too if they are front and center.  As much as possible, keep these distractions out of reach.  Also, I like to keep my office area clean when working from home, that way I am not distracted by the things that need to be cleaned up.  I am someone that needs some order so I often start the day just tidying up my office for a few minute so it “feels good” to me as I am working.

2. Create your own dedicated office space.  It is very difficult to stay focused and motivated if you are working in your bedroom or on the couch. It is very important that you dedicate an area in your house to being your office space. Otherwise, it will be very difficult to keep your train of thought on track if you have a number of distractions staring you in the face because you are working on the living room couch or the kitchen table. If you don’t have an actual room for your home office with a door you can shut, then carve out a real space wherever it is and put a sign up for the family that when you are in work mode, they need to wait…Easier said than done, I know but we do train people (even family) how to treat us.  It is good for your family to see you focused and accomplishing too.   The best way to mentally get yourself into work mode is to create an area that is your dedicated office or space.  Make it feel good to you.  We spend a lot of time working so enjoy your surroundings whether that is a bouquet of fresh flowers, or your favorite music in the background, create an environment that you enjoy.  Simple things really do add up.

3. Keep your office stocked and ready to go. Make sure that you have all the supplies that you need so you don’t have to stop what you are doing to go grab them. I also like to have my favorite teas and healthy snacks stocked so I have something to keep me fueled.  Now that you are ready to go, practice setting aside 2 hours a day for dedicated focus time.  It is amazing how much you can get done when you power through 2 hours of serious focused time without distractions.

4. Set office hours that you will stick to. Just because you are working from home does not mean that you should work random hours. Or work all the time which I have been known to do…If you kind of work all the time, it isn’t dedicated or as focused.  Trust me, it is more fun when you can really dedicate the time to it versus being kind of paying attention to work and the family or other distractions at the same time.  This is a tough one for me but the experts say that you should come in at a set time each day and then leave at a set time.  I am laughing as I write that because that will definitely be a new discipline for me but I am willing to try!  If you have a family, it might be a good idea to keep a sign on the door with your office hours so that everyone in the house knows that your work time is off-limits. That will also serve as a visual reminder for you to keep on working 😉

5. Stay connected! Working from home does not mean you have to be isolated. Sometimes people will say they don’t like to work from home because they feel lonely or they miss the friendly banter with people at the office.  When we work from home, we need to work harder to create that.  Coffee dates and phone calls or quick walks outside can make a big difference.  Keeping in touch with your team on a regular basis can fulfill the personal touch we all need too.  All of these things will also help you remember that you are not alone on the job and keep you motivated.   There are so many advantages to working from home.  I love it and truly can’t imagine having to work in an office anymore but if you are new to this, there are some adjustments to make.  Whether you are new or not, I hope this article gave you some food for thought.  For all of you celebrating Thanksgiving this week, happiest of times with your family.  I am grateful for all of you and our community!

How to Stay Focused During the Holidays!

We are about to enter the holiday season once again and with that comes a new round of being busier than ever. There just is never enough time to bake holiday cookies, attend the parties and buy all those last minute gifts for your friends and family plus do all of the work you normally have to do. Many of my team members that work from home always ask me about tips on how to stay focused at work during the holidays so that is what this week’s blog is going to be about! Here are 10 tips for staying focused on your work during the holiday season:

1. REMAIN CALM. I know your to do list may seem overwhelming as your time seems to be shrinking. But don’t let your personal stress affect your work performance or diminish your productivity. Remember to take some time off from work to spend holiday time with family or even get a little shopping out of the way. That way you can have a chance to refresh yourself during the busy holiday season.

2. Make a to-do list. Even though it may seem overwhelming, it will give you a chance to clear your mind and focus on the most important things that need to be. I like to create one giant list then prioritize by importance. I also love using a website called Toodledo.  Highlight the tasks you must have completed by the time your family arrives in town to celebrate the holidays. Or, if you have tasks that MUST be done during those days, prioritize what needs to be done, set a time and goal. Do the most important things first!

3. Make a daily plan. If you have a plan for each day of the holiday season, it will help you be more organized. Create a plan so that you can assign work tasks to each day, as well as holiday shopping and travel time. If you have children, it may be a good idea to also think of activities to keep the kids busy and occupied.  You won’t be able to get everything done, so make sure you are focused on the top 5 things that will really make a difference.  Don’t get bogged down in the busy work.  Focus on the “A” level activities.

4. Get a jump on your to do list. Start working on all those year-end projects ahead of time. Even start your holiday shopping earlier than you did in the past. That way you can attend all of the holiday parties and family obligations later in the month, knowing that you have the time and that you are better organized.  Make sure you delegate too.  My husband always says I have learned the art of delegation.  Delegate with a smile and a please and thank you but make sure you are including the people who can help you with tasks.

5. Look out for distractions! They are everywhere during the busy holiday season. When you are setting aside time to work – do that! Let your family know that for the next 3 hours you are off limits.  Don’t get distracted by online shopping. That can wait until later. Remember, if you are trying to do too many things at once you will get overwhelmed. Sometimes going to a coffee shop or library can be helpful because there aren’t as many things to pull you away from productivity.  It can be a nice break in the day too.

6. Create boundaries. If you set aside time to work, make sure that everyone in your family knows that it is your time and that you should not be disturbed unless it is an absolute emergency. Put your phone on silent so that you are not tempted to answer the phone. On the other hand, if you set aside time to spend with your children, parents or other loved ones – don’t get distracted by work! Family time is especially sacred during the holiday season and should be one of your major commitments.  Make sure to put the phone down during these times.  We are setting examples for our kids and loved ones.

7. Take care of yourself! Remember to take care of yourself both physically and mentally. Try to exercise more this holiday season – don’t let your to do list take away from your normal routine. Also sleep more, not less so you have the energy to deal with everything you have to do during the day. Finally, watch what you eat and drink. Everyone eats more sugary foods and alcoholic beverages during the holiday season, but remember those will impact your next day at work, both mentally and physically. This one is hard, I know! Often we get sick in January because of how much we “overdid” in December.  If we take better care of ourselves in December, we can usually avoid the January blahs.

8. Don’t over commit yourself. It is all right if you cannot make every holiday party or function. Your friends will forgive you! Just be sure to prioritize and balance your holiday activities with your work obligations. In the long run it is better to keep focused and maintain a good work-life balance.

9. Remind yourself each morning to stay focused at work. Forget about all you have to do and focus on each day’s obligations. Make sure that when you are working, you are focused on the tasks that have to be done, and not thinking about what you have to do in the near future. I like to wake up with a cup of tea and look over my to do list. This really gets me in the right mindset for productivity. When you are at the actual holiday function then you can focus on the holidays and having fun!

10. Remember what the holiday season is about – celebration and spending time with friends and family! It is one of the happiest times of the year and does not have to be chaotic, even though there are lots of pulls for it to be that  – it is what we make of it!  Enjoy the simple things.  Your decorated house or your kids happy faces when they find the perfect gift, baking, the first snow, the way the light changes at night….  The list goes on and on.  I love the holidays and have learned over the years, that less is more.  We don’t have to make the 30 kinds of cookies we did when we were kids.  Think about your holiday traditions and continue to do the ones you only really love!

How to Deal With Negative People

As you are trying to expand your contacts through network marketing, you may run into people who just don’t like MLM. This is just a fact of life!  Don’t take it personally.  Lots of people don’t get lots of things.  This will happen to all of us at one point or another. I have found that there are certain ways to handle these situations that leave you in the best position. In the network marketing world, you don’t want to work with negative people anyway and they can poison the moral of your entire team. When you get rejected or deal with a negative person, keep that in mind above all. Grab a cup of coffee and take a minute to read some advice from a someone who has been in the industry for a long time!

To deal with those negative nellies, you just have to learn what to say and what not to say. Most importantly, do not try to convince them to love MLM or act defensively. Those are the two worst things you can do but unfortunately it is the two ways that many people commonly react.

Instead you need to learn how to manage your energy. Do not be frightened if someone rejects you. Do not try to manage objections. Instead manage your energy and be sensitive of other’s energy. If you encounter someone with a crappy, cynical, skeptical, or negative energy then just remain calm and walk away.  You don’t need everybody and you definitely don’t need downer donna…

It is a very powerful thing to be able to learn to manage your energy. A lot of times, when you manage your posture and remain neutral, those very same people will then react positively as their negative energy melts away. Just remember: do not get defensive or try to convince them. Instead just say, “Oh, cool no problem. It’s not for everybody, but hey, let me ask you this. Do you know anyone that does want to make some extra money if I showed them how to do it?”  Or you could say, “No worries.  Looking healthier and having more money isn’t for everyone.”  Depending on who you are talking to, that last sentence could be said with a big smile on your face.  People will find that disarming.  I don’t intend for you to say that with sarcasm or anger.  Let it go.  At the end of the day, the last thing you want your business to do is to hurt or change your relationships.  Your business isn’t for everyone.  But just about everyone could probably benefit from your products.

Another great technique is to do the take away.  You can say to a prospect, “This probably isn’t for you but I think you will love the products.”  Or “I know this business probably isn’t for you, but can I count on you to be one of my 10 customer testimonials?  That is all I am asking. ”  Remember, you are just looking for people who are open to learning more and then direct them to a tool.

The way you handle your energy when someone is negative towards you could potentially blow them away. All you have to do is remain calm and in charge of your emotions. Do not let anyone ruffle your feathers or upset you. Only then will you be anxiety free at the end of the day and excited to begin a new day of network marketing.  These are just objections you should expect to experience on a regular basis.  It isn’t a big deal and often isn’t even about you.  They just may not be ready for what you have to offer.  Many of these people will be watching from the sidelines to see if this something you really go for.  They will be watching to see if this is something you are really committed to.  So surprise them and really go for it.  All the best!
